Amenities are the things that keep your citizens happy in Civilization 6. It is important to increase amenities because satisfaction affects the productivity of your cities. If satisfaction drops below content, a city’s non-food yields can drop by 10%-40%. However, satisfaction above content can increase a city’s yields by 10%-20%. These are some of the various ways you can increase amenities in Civilization 6.
Obtain Luxury Resources
Luxury resource tiles across the map, such as ivory, cloves, citrus, furs, cocoa, marble, and cotton, are the biggest source of amenities. Those are resource tiles you need to improve with your builders to obtain maximum amenities from them. The amount of resources you can obtain from amenities ranges from four to six.
Build Entertainment Complex Buildings
Entertainment Complex buildings are another big source of amenities in Civilization 6. An Entertainment Complex district on its own generates one amenity. However, Arena, Zoo, and Stadium are the three buildings you can build in an Entertainment Complex. Those buildings generate the following amounts of amenities:
- Arena: +2 amenities
- Zoo: +1 amenities (extends to cities within six tiles)
- Stadium: +2 amenities in base game (extends to cities within six tiles)
Build Wonders With Amenity Bonuses
Building certain wonders can also increase your civilization’s amenities in Civilization 6. There are several wonders you can build in Civilization 6 and its expansions that provide variable amenity bonuses. These are the wonders with amenity bonuses:
- Colosseum
- Golden Gate Bridge
- Great Bath
- Huey Teocalli
- Temple of Artemis
- Alhambra
- Estádio do Maracanã
The best wonders to build for amenities are the Colosseum and the Estádio do Maracanã. Colosseum provides +3 (+2 in Rise and Fall) amenities to all cities within six tiles of it. However, Estádio do Maracanã is better because it provides +2 amenities for all your civilization’s cities.
Select the Classical Republic Government
Selecting the Classical Government tier one (early game) government will increase your civilization’s amenities. The government gives each of your cities a district +1 amenity. In the Rise and Fall expansion, Classical Government also has a +1 housing effect for cities with a district.
Build Water Park Buildings
Water Park is an alternative entertainment district you can build in the Civilization 6 Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm expansions. That district generates +1 amenity without any additional buildings. You can add these buildings to a Water Park for more amenities:
- Ferris Wheel: +2 amenities
- Aquarium: +1 amenity (extends to cities within nine tiles)
- Aquatics Center: +2 amenities (extends to cities within nine tiles)
Establish National Parks
Although national parks primarily generate tourism, they also provide additional amenities for the cities. A single national park provides +2 amenities for its parent city and +1 amenities for the four settlements closest to it within your civilization. So, try establishing a national park on suitable tiles when you can for more amenities.
Select Policy Cards With Amenity Effects
There are five policy cards you can select for increasing amenities in Civilization 6 with their required civics unlocked. Most of those are economic policies, but one is also a military card. These are the policy cards with which you can boost amenities:
- Retainers: Garrisoned units generate +1 amenity each
- Civil Prestige: Governors with two promotions generate +1 amenity each
- New Deal: +2 amenities
- Liberalism: Cities with two districts generate +1 amenity each
- Sports Media: Each Stadium generates an additional amenity
Add Tile Improvements That Generate Amenities
Civilization 6 Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm players can add improvements to tiles that provide amenities. The skiing resort, which generates +1 amenity, is a tile improvement players can add to mountain tiles with all leaders. Other tile improvements, such as golf courses and ice rinks, that generate amenities are exclusively for the Robert the Bruce and Wilfrid Laurier leaders. If you have the Llang governor with the Parks and Recreation promotion, you can also add park improvements to tiles, each of which generates an amenity when placed beside a lake, coast, or river.
Become the Suzerain of Muscat or Chokia Mounds
There aren’t many suzerain bonuses that increase amenities. However, players can increase amenities by establishing a suzerain in the Muscat city-state within the Vikings Scenario Pack. The Muscat suzerain bonus provides +1 amenity for each city that includes a Commercial Hub.
The Chokia city-state in Gathering Storm also has a suzerain bonus with which you can increase amenities in Civilization 6. Establishing a suzerain in Chokia enables you to add Chokia Mounds improvements to tiles. A Chokia Mound can generate +2 amenities each with the Natural History civic unlocked.
Select the River Goddess Pantheon
If you’re playing for a Religious Victory condition, selecting the River Goddess pantheon can be a good way to increase amenities. River Goddess provides +1 amenity to each city with a Holy District placed beside a river. However, this pantheon is much better for Gathering Storm players because it provides a +2 amenities and +2 housing for those cities with Holy Districts placed beside rivers.
Amenities in Civilization 6 aren’t something you can afford to neglect greatly. You must at least amass luxury resources and build some Entertainment District buildings to prevent satisfaction from dropping too much. However, increasing amenities beyond the minimum required in the ways discussed above will boost all yields in your cities for variable victory conditions.
