Age of Empires is a classic PC game for which there is now a mobile version. Alas, Age of Empires Mobile isn’t much like the PC games (certainly for combat at least), but it offers a fun way for players to rediscover the AoE series on their smartphones and tablets. In Age of Empires Mobile, players can engage in resource gathering and combat battles to climb the power and Island Combat rankings. Here are some Age of Empires Mobile beginner tips to help you become a legendary leader.
Remember the Bow > Sword > Spear > Cavalry Combat Formula
Age of Empires has a rock, paper, scissors kind of formula that’s crucial to its combat. Always remember that bows counter swords, swords counter spears, spears counter cavalry, and cavalry counters bows when selecting barbarian targets to attack on the citadel map. Your hero marches (otherwise armies) inflict 30% more damage when attacking units they effectively counter. For example, spear units will always beat cavalry of an equal level because of that combat formula.
Check the Events Center to Claim More Resources
Gathering more and more resources (food, gold, stone, and wood) is crucial to progression in Age of Empires Mobile. Aside from recruiting villages to collect them, you can claim many more resources via the Events Center if you check it regularly. The Events Center includes a variety of routine, alliance, and community time-based events for all players to participate in that offer considerable resource rewards. It’s always worth checking the Events Center to see if there are any resource bonus challenges you’ve unknowingly completed and can claim.
To check the Events Center, tap its button near the top-right of the Age of Empires Mobile interface. Check out the Legendary Advent tab there that usually gives you one free wheel spin a day, with which you can scoop a big 100K resource bonus. If you’re playing on a weekend day, you might also be able to claim a weekend sign-in bonus. Then, go through the routine and alliance events to check if there are more resources you can claim (or complete their challenges for more).
Kill Barbarian Tribes on the Map for XP Tomes
XP Tomes are essential for leveling up your hero characters in Age of Empires Mobile. Leveling up your heroes faster will make you stronger for citadel-based and Island Tactics combat. Killing barbarians on the citadel map is one of the best ways to obtain more XP Tomes with which to level up your heros. It’s easy to defeat barbarians at or below your heroes’ levels. So, fight and defeat barbarians on a regular basis to obtain more XP Tomes for leveling up heroes.
Complete Your Daily Quests
Age of Empires Mobile includes a list of daily quests you can complete that give you additional resource bonuses. Completing these daily quests is one of the best ways to play Age of Empires Mobile because they give you things to do and additional resource bonuses (with chests thrown in for completing more of them). These daily quests are usually the same and easy to complete. Defeating 10 common tribes, fishing at the dock, and picking up five resources in the world are three of the best daily quests to complete for resource bonuses.
Assign Heroes to Gather Resources Before You Stop Playing
You can amass considerably more stone, food, gold, and wood by assigning your heroes to collect them from level-four resource points on the world map. However, it can take hours for your heroes to finish gathering from such resource points. If you assign them to gather when playing the game, you can’t use them for combat. It’s better to assign heroes to gather from level-four resource points just before you stop playing. Then, you’ll have many more gathered resources when you resume playing on another day.
Join an Alliance
Age of Empires Mobile is certainly an alliance-oriented game with many alliances battling for supremacy on the world map. Even if you’re not bothered about engaging in allied gameplay, you should still join an alliance for the resource benefits it will give you. When you’re in an alliance, you can claim regular resource bonuses from it by tapping the Gifts button on the alliance screen and selecting Claim All. Plus, you can get XP Tomes and Elite Recruitment Tokens from your alliance’s treasury by purchasing them with Alliance Coins.
Consider Changing Your Civilization
You don’t get to choose a starting civilization in Age of Empires Mobile. However, you can change it to other alternatives, each of which offers variable bonuses for different playstyles. To do so, tap your hero picture at the top-left corner of the game screen and your civilization badge (change button). Then, you’ll see a selection of alternative civilizations to choose from. Choose a civilization to switch to there and select Confirm. These are the eight AoE civilizations you can select:
- British
- French
- Romans
- Egyptians
- Byzantines
- Chinese
- Japanese
- Koreans
Include Heroes With Matching Unit Types in Your Marches
When you have more hero cards, which you can obtain by using your recruitment tokens at the Tavern building, you can start combining them in marches (armies) by selecting Troops. One thing you should do when selecting additional heroes for marches is to choose matching unit types. For example, selecting two heroes who use spears for a march will give it a 20% unit type bonus.
It’s also better to select heroes with matching military specialities in marches. Selecting two heroes that share the same military speciality in march will give them a 20% bonus for all attributes. This increases to a 30% attribute bonus for a march that includes three heroes of the same speciality. The badge symbols on hero cards show what their military specialities are.
Those Age of Empires Mobile tips will help you climb the power rankings faster. You don’t necessarily need to engage in much PvP or alliance combat to rise the rankings quicker when you start playing the AoE Mobile game. Focusing on more efficient resource collection and amassing XP Tomes for enhancing citadels, technology, and heroes will be enough to propel newer players up the power rankings.
