A Guide to What’s New in the Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 Update

Epic rolled out the Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 update on August 7, 2025. Chapter 6: Season 4 has introduced new locations, weaponry, bosses, POIs, and non-player characters, as per usual for seasonal updates. In Chapter 6: Season 4, Oninoshima has become a bug-infested mess after the Super Showdown event. These are the new things you can discover in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4.

The Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 Backstory

To cut a long story short, the activation of the Spirit Realm during the Super Showdown event unleashed a large kraken monster for the Supernova heroes to fight on Oninoshima. During this battle, Superman hacks off a big tentacle from the monster to secure a victory against the Dark Presence. However, the rotten remains of this tentacle attract a swarm of Onimorph bugs (otherwise insectoids) that establish hives from which they overrun much of Oninoshima.

To combat the bugs, an Onimorph eXtermination Rangers organization (O.X.R.) has been established. The O.X.R. establishes an alliance with Supernova to repel the swarm of bugs from Oninoshima. Hope, Daigo, and Night Rose figure out that the Onimorphs are coming from the Spirit Realm and that there must be an unknown access point for them.

The New Locations

Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 introduces five new locations to the battle royale map. Four of those are bug-infested areas of the map, and one is an O.X.R base. Those new locations are called:

  • The Hive
  • Swarmy Stash
  • Ranger’s Ruin
  • O.X.R. HQ
  • Demon’s Debris

Of those locations, the Hive is perhaps the most dangerous for bug activity. That large area of the Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 map has replaced Lonewolf Lair. You’ll find loads of loot there, but there are also many bugs!

Ranger’s Ruin is a former O.X.R. base that the Onimorph has overrun. This is a former weapons lab where you can collect lots of quality loot. However, there are more bugs to fight through there.

Or, check out the more hospitable O.X.R. HQ map location. That’s where the O.X.R. commanders hang out within the battle ops hub. You can also purchase new gear from the O.X.R. Armory in that location.

Demon’s Debris is what’s left of Demon’s Domain, which was largely destroyed during the Super Showdown battle. There, you can find and investigate the hacked-off kraken tentacle. This is another high-threat environment filled with bug nests.

You can also find numerous new POI landmarks scattered across the map. There are various OXR roadblock areas around Oninoshima. O.X.R. Base Alpha, Epsilon, and Theta make up a triumvirate of smaller O.X.R fortifications marked on the map with icons. Those POIs include bars, selection shops, and NPCs for you to chat with.

The Bugs and Bosses

The bug NPC enemies are the scary new thing in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4. When you go to a bug-infested area, you’ll be attacked by Swarmer and Bomber Onimorphs. These little critters are easy to kill, but there are many of them. So, you’ll use up quite a lot of ammunition when fighting them.

The three new Queen bosses are the scariest of all the bugs. You can fight three big Queen bug bosses by killing the Swarmers and Bombers and clearing their nests in Demon’s Debris, Ranger’s Ruin, and the Hive. Defeating those bosses will reward you with a mythic OXR Rifle and one of these three medallions:

  • Surge Medallion: Enhances your movement speed.
  • Springling Medallion: Enables the double jump ability and removes drop damage.
  • Carapace Medallion: Gives you +50 shield and +50 health for enemy elimination and passive shield generation.

The New Weaponry

Chapter 6: Season 4 adds some new weapons to Fortnite, much like any other seasonal update. Perhaps the most notable are the Swarmstrike missile launcher, which inflicts considerable damage, and the Bug Buster. The Bug Buster is quite a unique weapon that you charge for about 1.5 seconds to increase its damage and blast radius. These are the other new weapons in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4:

  • O.X.R. Rifle
  • Enhanced Assault Rifle
  • Eradicator O.X.R Rifle
  • Leadsplitter 3000
  • Double Trouble
  • Wrecker Revolver
  • Eradicator Marksman Wrecker Revolver
  • Shockwave Launcher
  • Sweeper Shotgun

O.X.R. Ranks, Drop Pods, and Bunkers

There’s a new O.X.R. Rank system for players in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4. You’ll start from rank C, but can increase your ranking to B, A, S, and S+. Killing more players is the best way to rank up. However, you can also gradually raise your ranking by killing bugs and opening more chests.

Every time you rank up, an O.X.R. Drop Pod will land at your location. These O.X.R. Drop Pods are filled with good loot for you to pick up. Plus, they come with Super Soldier Ranked Boons that give you different abilities when picked up.

If you reach rank A, you can open a special O.X.R. Bunker. Each of those bunkers is filled with chests and higher-tier loot for you to tuck into when opened. There are four O.X.R. Bunkers that get marked on the map with a letter A when you reach the required rank for opening them.

O.X.R. Chests

O.X.R. chests are special crates that everybody can open at certain locations. Those are expanded chests that include better loot than standard ones. Such chests are in numerous locations across the map. You can find quite a few of such O.X.R. chests at the Alpha, Theta, and Epsilon fortifications in and around the Hive, Canyon Crossing, and Outpost Enclave locations. Look for the shiny star-like markers on the map to find those forts.

The NPCS

Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 also currently includes a total of 18 non-player characters for you to chat with. Speaking to such characters enables you to purchase new weaponry, receive free items, open rifts, and hire some of them. These are the NPCs in Chapter 6: Season 4

  • Morgan Myst
  • Agent Patch
  • Mizuki
  • Cuddle Team Leader
  • Meowscles
  • Daigo
  • Killswitch
  • Yoo-mi
  • Jade
  • Kendo
  • Battle Gamer Mae
  • The Night Rose
  • Vengeance Jones
  • Peely
  • Triggerfish
  • Shadow Blade Hope
  • Lt. Ripp Slade
  • Onyx Winter

You can find many of those NPCs in the O.X.R. HQ and the Alpha, Theta, and Epsilon forts. If you’re looking for a hirable sidekick, find and speak to Cuddle Team Leader, Peely, Meowscles, or Triggerfish. All players can hire those NPCs with collected gold.

Another thing to note about NPCs in Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 is that many of them offer patch-up and rift services exclusively for players at O.X.R. Rank A or B. Their services will be locked for players at rank C. Thus, it’s pointless to speak to many of them if you’re not above rank C.

So, Fortnite Chapter 6: Season 4 offers a bug-fest to enjoy over the next three months or so. You can have loads of bug-busting fun in the new map locations. Get your O.X.R. Rank up to grab the latest and best gear in the new season that will help you win more matches. Good luck, and enjoy the mayhem in Chapter 6: Season 4.
