8 Tips for Attracting More Civ 6 Great People in Civilization 6

Civ 6 great people in Civilization 6 are exceptional historical figures that you can attract to your nation. They are great engineers, admirals, generals, musicians, writers, artists, prophets, scientists, and merchants you can attract to your civilization. Such great people have special abilities that you can usually activate in their associated districts when you have them.

The primary way to attract Civ 6 great people is to build more district buildings. Districts and their buildings generate great person points (GPPs) that you need to reach the required totals for claiming great people. However, there are other ways you can increase your great person points for attracting more great people to your civilization. Here are some tips for how you can attract more Civ 6 great people to your civilization.

Play as Pedro II of Brazil

Pedro II is the Brazilian leader in Civilization 6 with a leader bonus that will enable you to attract more Civ 6 great people. His Magnanimous leader bonus gives you a 20% refund on the points cost for recruiting or patronage of great persons. Thus, playing as Pedro II with that leader bonus will give you a distinct advantage for attracting more great people ahead of other civilizations.

Save Gold and Faith for Great Person Patronage

Patronage is an alternative way to attract Civ 6 great people beyond points generation. That is effectively a type of grant that enables you to purchase great persons with gold or faith, via the great person screen. The amount of gold or faith needed for purchasing great persons in this way falls as you accumulate more points for them. Thus, saving gold and faith for the patronage of great persons is a good way to attract them to your civilization sooner rather than later. That’s especially the case when you’re behind other civilizations in reaching a required great person’s points total.

Select the Classical Republic Government

Classical Republic is a tier-one government with an effect that generates more great person points for your civilization. Selecting the Classical Republic government for your civilization will generate 15% more great person points. So, choosing that government is a good way to attract more great persons to your civilization during the early game.

Select the Divine Spark Pantheon

Divine Spark is one of my favorite Civilization 6 pantheons because of the extra GPPs it generates for cultural, prophet, and scientific great persons. The Divine Spark pantheon generates +1 great person point per turn from Campus, Theater Square, and Holy Site districts. However, note that in Gathering Storm Campus and Theater Square, the districts must include the Amphitheater and Library buildings. If you’re playing for a culture or scientific victory, selecting Divine Spark is a good pantheon to select for attracting more scientists and cultural great persons to your civilization.

Combine the Oracle Wonder With Pingala

Combining the Oracle Wonder with the Pingala governor in a city can be a great way to considerably boost its great person points generation. First, build the Oracle Wonder in a city. The wonder will generate an additional +2 great person points per turn for each district in the city that includes it.

Then, appoint the Pingala governor and station him in the city that includes the Oracle Wonder. Select Pingala’s Grant’s promotion when he’s in the city that includes the Oracle. His Grants promotion will double all the great people points generated in the city that has the Oracle wonder.

Run More City District Projects

City district projects can be a good way to increase GPP generation for attracting more great people who shouldn’t be overlooked. For example, you can select Commercial Hub Investment, Industrial Zone Logistics, Campus Research Grants, and Theater Square Festival in cities that include the required districts for those projects. Those projects generate additional great person points for your civilization when completed (typically amounting to 22% of the production invested in them).

Select Policies That Increase GPPs

There are a variety of wildcard policies you can select to increase great person points generation in Civilization 6. Literary Tradition, Frescoes, Revelation, Navigation, Traveling Merchants, and Invention are all policy cards that generate +2 GPPs per turn for specific types of great people. Or select the superior Nobel Prize, Science Foundations, Military Organization, and Laissez-Faire policy cards that generate +4 GPPs per turn. Selecting such cards when you can do so is one of the easiest ways to attract more Civ 6 great people to your civilization.

Settle in a City Near the Zhangye Danxia Natural Wonder

Zhangye Danxia is a rather unique natural wonder in Civilization 6 Rise and Fall that generates great person points rather than science, culture, or faith tile yields. That wonder generates +2 great general and +2 great merchant points per turn for any civilization that includes one of its three tiles. If you ever discover the Zhangye Danxia natural wonder, try settling a city beside it to boost your great person points per turn for generals and merchants.

Attracting more Civ 6 great people is crucial to winning cultural and religious victories and is also important for space races with scientists and engineers. However, the special abilities of many great people always come in handy for whatever victory path you seek in Civilization 6. So, try applying some of the tips above in your Civ 6 games to bring more great persons to your civilizations.
