Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has three primary story questlines for players to complete. Among them is the Gateway to Atlantis questline, for which the Eagle Bearer (Kassandra or Alexios) must find four artifacts to seal the gateway to the lost city of Atlantis. To find those artifacts, you must find and kill four mythical creatures (three are bosses). There are also two other hidden Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creatures that aren’t a part of the Gateway to Atlantis quests. This is where and how you can find the six mythical beasts in AC Odyssey.
The Sphinx
When you’ve completed the “United Front” quest (approx level 23), Myrrine will tell the Eagle Bearer to find his/her father. Complete the “Family’s Legacy” quest to discover Pythagoras to begin the Gateway to Atlantis questline. Pythagoras tells the Eagle Bearer about the four artifacts to find, but doesn’t explain exactly where or how to find them all, with only rough geographical details provided.
The Sphinx is the best of the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creatures to find first because you don’t need to defeat it in a boss fight. To find that creature, go to the ruins just north of Scorched Rolling Plains, south of Lake Kapais, within the Boeotia region of the map, circled in the screenshot below. There, speak to Gorgais to start a quest in which you’ll need to find his apprentice and the amulet.

When you’ve found the required apprentice and amulet, return to the ruins. Then, you can start the “Awaken the Myth” quest. Return to the ruins at night to find the Sphinx, a mythical creature. The Sphinx will ask you to solve a riddle to complete the quest.
The Cyclops
To find the Cyclops Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creature, you must start your search on Kythera Island, which is directly west of Messara in the southwestern corner of the map. Go to the Murex Dyeting Facility village within the northern Aphrodite’s Watch region of Kythera. There, you must start the “God Among Men Quest” (recommended level 35), in which you’ll be directed to rescue Empedokles from the nearby Murex Fort. Then, complete the “Left to Dye” question to rescue Empedokles.

Saving Empedokles will activate a “Stairway to Olympos” quest for retrieving an Atlantis artifact (disk key). To complete that quest, you must go to the Isle of Thisvi (also known as the Forgotten Isle) in the south of the Phokis region. When you get there, throw yourself off the cliffs into the interior water area of Thisvi, where you can swim into a Cave of the Forgotten Isle entrance. There you’ll find the Cyclops, a mythical creature, which you must slay to collect its Atlantis artifact.

Steropes the Lightning Bringer
Steropes the Lightning Bringer is an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creature who doesn’t have an Atlantis artifact. Nevertheless, you can still optionally fight him to complete a The Lightning Bringer bounty quest. To find and fight Lightning Bringer, head to the Bay of Nobody area along the eastern coast of Andros (where Ancient Forge is) when you’re at a suitable level to defeat it. Defeating Lightning Bringer rewards you with the legendary Steropes’ Bow.

The Minotaur
You’ll need to complete a series of quests to find the Minotaur Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creature in Messara. To start the ball rolling, start the “Myths and Minotaurs” quest and go to the Knossos Palace complex in Messara to find the boy Ardos. Speak to Ardos in Knossos Palace, who tells you about the Minotaur mythical creature. From there on, you’ll need to complete the following associated quests:
- “Of Minotaurs and Men”
- “Blood in the Circle”
- “Full Circle”
- “Recollections”
- “Seeking Answers”
Ardos will give you a key for entering the Labyrinth in Knossos Palace during the “Seeking Answers” quest. Enter the Labyrinth in the Knossos Palace, where you’ll find the Minotaur. Defeat the Minotaur mythical creature boss to complete the “He Waits” quest and collect another Atlantis artifact.

Cyclops Arges
Cyclos Arges is another one of the optional Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creatures you can fight, which isn’t a part of the Gateway to Atlantis questline. Note that Cyclops is a high-level boss best left until you’ve at least completed the family questline. To find Cyclos Arges, go to the volcanic island of Nisiros in the southeast corner of the map, near Messara.
When you reach Nisiros, activate “The Bright One” bounty quest. You can walk through a wall crack to enter the lava-filled area that includes the Cyclos Arges boss. Alternatively, throw yourself off cliffs overlooking the fighting area for the boss. Then, defeat Cyclops Arges to receive the legendary Hammer of Hephaistos.

Medusa
Medusa is the toughest of the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creatures in the Atlantis questline, best left until last. To find Medusa, go to Lesbos island in the northeastern corner of the map (preferably when you’re at about level 40 or higher). Head to the village of Eresos on the western side of Lesbos, where you can start the “Romancing the Stone Garden” quest.

During the “Romancing the Stone Garden” quest, you’ll meet Bryce, who takes you to the Petrified Temple that includes the Medusa boss. However, you can’t enter that temple until you’ve retrieved the key for it. Complete these follow-on quests to retrieve the required key:
- “A Silthery Plea”
- “Hard to Artemis”
- “Heavy is the Spear”
- “Keys to Happiness”
When you have completed those quests, return to the temple to meet up with Bryce and enter it. That will start “The Writhing Dread” quest, in which you confront the Medusa Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creature. Defeat Medusa to collect its artifact. With all the artifacts collected, you can proceed to complete the Gateway to Atlantis questline.

If you need clearer markers for those mythical creature locations, check out this Assassin’s Creed Odyssey map page. That page shows you the locations of many things in AC Odyssey with map markers. Click the Mythical Creature marker option to see the exact map locations of them.
The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey mythical creatures above are among the toughest bosses in the game. So, make sure you’re at a suitable character level and are reasonably well-equipped to fight them. Good luck, and have fun retrieving the artifacts with which to seal the entrance to Atlantis.
