One question that’s nearly as pressing, and just as widely discussed as the release date of the highly anticipated latest installment in the GTA series is how much will Grand Theft Auto 6 cost at launch?
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick weighed in on the ongoing discussion around the price of GTA 6 at a recent conference. While he didn’t reveal an exact figure, his comments suggest the game is unlikely to carry the very high price that some rumors have suggested.

“Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery,” Zelnick said at the recent iicon Interactive Innovation Conference. “How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got.”
Zelnick went on to explain that, in his view, game prices have actually become more affordable over time. Major releases have largely stayed at $60, or more recently $70, for over a decade, even as inflation has pushed up prices across the broader economy.
“If you look at it through that lens, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense,” he said. “But that isn’t how we approach it. Instead, we focus on how to deliver something amazing and make sure the price feels fair to players.”
While measuring the success of GTA 6 is, in Zelnick’s own words, “terrifying,” it’s easy to see why. Its predecessor, GTA 5, has generated more than $8.6 billion in revenue since its 2013 launch, sold over 200 million copies worldwide, and shattered records by earning $1 billion in just three days. Despite those staggering expectations, Zelnick remains focused by sticking to a simple philosophy that guides his approach.
“What we think about is making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth, in history,” he said, “and it’s a pretty daunting challenge. If we do that, and if we’re of service to our customers, then the upside will take care of itself.”

If GTA 6 delivers the kind of experience players expect, its success will likely speak for itself, regardless of price or the immense expectations surrounding it. With Rockstar’s track record and the sheer anticipation behind the release, the real measure of success may not just be sales figures, but how well it captures the imagination of players and sets a new benchmark for the industry.
