GTA 6 is already being touted as one of the biggest video game releases of all time, but just how big will its playable map actually be?
According to a recent interview with Edge Magazine, the answer is pretty damn enormous.
Rockstar Games claims that GTA 6‘s map, which includes Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida, will feature a landmass nearly as large as the playable maps of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.
And it isn’t just the sheer size of the map that Rockstar is boasting about.

Aaron Garbut, Rockstar’s head of development and co-studio head, revealed that GTA 6 will feature “an order of magnitude more interiors” than its predecessors, suggesting that players will have far more buildings and locations to explore than ever before.
The map isn’t simply being made bigger for the sake of being bigger, either. Rockstar is also emphasizing the extraordinary level of detail being poured into its open world, right down to individual streets and back alleys.
“Every back alley is as densely detailed and interesting as the others,” Garbut explained, adding that an enormous amount of thought and attention has gone into even the most seemingly insignificant locations.
While the news that GTA 6 will feature a larger map than previous entries in the series seems like a no-brainer, the idea that it could nearly match the combined playable areas of GTA 4, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 is almost unfathomable. And if Rockstar can deliver that kind of scale without sacrificing the density, detail and interactivity its open worlds are known for, we could be looking at something that could live up to the game’s insanely lofty expectations.
The bigger question is whether GTA 6 will finally be the game that pushes the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to their absolute limits, nearly six years into the current console generation.
Do you think Rockstar can deliver a world this massive and detailed without compromising performance? Let us know in the comments.
