We’re still waiting for the next Grand Theft Auto VI trailer to drop and likely shatter records across YouTube and social media when it does. Rumors suggest it could arrive in late April or mid-May, but for now, fans are left combing through interviews and commentary, trying to piece together what Rockstar’s highly anticipated game might actually look like at launch.
Even former Rockstar developers are in the same position. But one ex-employee is urging fans to temper expectations, especially when it comes to the game’s visuals.

Speaking on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, David O’Reilly, an environmental artist who worked on Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, and GTA VI, shared his thoughts on the upcoming trailer.
“I can’t wait for the next trailer too,” he said. “All that stuff I have no idea about—the characterization, seeing that city all fleshed out so much more than when I’d last wandered it.”
However, O’Reilly emphasized that trailers don’t always reflect the full reality of a game in development. Instead, they’re carefully curated to showcase the best possible version of specific moments.
“When you make a trailer, they look at where the camera’s going to be, and that view is getting madly polished,” he explained.
“Whereas everything that’s not in that view is not getting madly polished yet. The whole world doesn’t look like that—you focus on the areas of the trailer.”
It’s a useful reminder for fans eagerly dissecting every frame and over-ruminating on what we’ve been given. Video games, especially ones as massive as Grand Theft Auto VI are constantly evolving, and what appears in a trailer can differ from the final product.

As for any insider details, O’Reilly made it clear he’s not the source fans might hope for. Despite spending years on the project, his role didn’t involve the story.
“With GTA 6, people are like, ‘What’s the story?’” he said. “And I’m like, ‘I’ve no idea, dude.’ I worked on it for five years, but I don’t know the storyline. I just knew it had two characters.”
In the end, the excitement surrounding the Grand Theft Auto VI trailers is completely justified, but it’s worth remembering that what we see will likely be a carefully polished slice rather than the full picture.
