Destroy All Humans remake release date set for July 28th

#AliensExist (51.7K tweets) and #AliensAreReal are trending on Twitter today and as if by some unexplained phenomenon, Developer THQ Nordic has revealed the official release date for Destroy All Humans with unearthly synchronous timing.

Destroy All Humans will be a remake of the open world action-adventure game franchise initially published by THQ in 2005 with a brand-new game engine different from the Playstation 2 remastered ports released on the Playstation 4 in 2016.

“It’s a full remake in the sense that we’re staying faithful to the original design, but everything is made from scratch. As you’ve seen, we have the visual strengths of Black Forest coming out. We’ve modernized a lot of the controls, the flow of the run and gun experience,” said Onurhan Karaagacli, development director of the Destroy All Humans remake in an interview with VentureBeat.

“We’ve taken bits of features that we know were improvements in the sequel to the first game and put them in. One example is the dash, which was only in the second game. We’ve added that here, and evolved it to have more of a skating motion. If you hold the dash button and press down, Crypto will skate along the ground, which gives you better mobility for shooting stuff. That’s where the fun of the game comes out.”

The official game synopsis, courtesy of the official Destroy All Humans website:

The cult-classic returns! Terrorize the people of 1950s Earth in the role of the evil alien Crypto-137. Harvest DNA and bring down the US government in the remake of the legendary alien invasion action adventure. Annihilate puny humans using an assortment of alien weaponry and psychic abilities. Reduce their cities to rubble with your flying Saucer!

One giant step on mankind!

The Destroy All Humans remake was announced in June 2019 at E3 in the form of a music video, “Ich Will,” by German metal band Rammstein. The video depicts the game’s main character, Cryptosporidum 137, as he both hypnotizes and menaces denizens of Earth while singing the lyrics of the song.

The new Destroy All Humans release date is set for July 28th, 2020 on PC (this will mark the first time the series has appeared on PC), Playstation 4 and Xbox One platforms.

Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
