Zack Snyder revealed his new movie Rebel Moon is getting a ‘ridiculous scale’ RPG

Zack Snyder, director of 300, Man of Steel, Watchmen, Batman vs. Superman and Justice League has a new project in the works, a sci-fi space epic called Rebel Moon, which is set to release on Netflix on December 22nd. Rebel Moon, which Snyder has admitted draws inspiration from the original Star Wars, as well as one of the films which influenced George Lucas with Star Wars, Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai, and also revealed in a recent podcast interview with The Nerd Queens the upcoming film would be be getting an accompanying “ridiculous scale” video game.

“The one thing that I’m having a really good time with – and I don’t really know if I’m supposed to talk about it – is this RPG that we’re doing that is just literally insane, and so immersive and so intense and so huge,” Snyder said.

“I don’t want to do a casual,” Snyder started to say, before stopping himself.

“There’s more coming, but all I’ll say is that it was pitched to me – because I’ve always wanted to do an RPG – like, ‘well, we could do it at this scale, or we could do it at ridiculous scale’.

“And I was like, ridiculous scale is clearly the scale that we should be doing it.

Snyder added that he pitched the idea of the Rebel Moon RPG to the developer with whom he’s working (who he still hasn’t revealed) himself and that although it’s still in the early stages, the developers were on board to accommodate Snyder’s “ridiculous scale” ideas.

Sofia Boutella as Kora in Zack Snyder’s new movie Rebel Moon/Netflix

Snyder continued, “And they were like: ‘Well, it’s going to take so much time, we’ve got to do all these brain dumps, you’ve got to tell us everything in the universe, what’s happening, the science.’ And I was like: ‘It’s fine, I’m happy to do it, let’s go all the way.’

Snyder concluded by saying that the Rebel Moon RPG would be “a completely realized universe and it’s really going to be fun,” before ending the discussion on the topic with an “anyway, I’m not supposed to talk about it.”

Rebel Moon‘s official description states, “When a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past named Kora to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.”

The film will star Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde, Star Trek Beyond) as the film’s protagonist Kora and sports a star-studded cast including Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of Jimmy. The film will also feature appearances by Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Jena Malone, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Alfonso Herrera, Stuart Martin, Staz Nair, Sky Yang, Rhian Rees, E. Duffy and Charlotte Maggi.

Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
