A Guide to the New Fortnite Blitz Royale Mode

Fortnite has always been renowned for its enthralling battle royale gameplay, but the new Blitz Royale mode takes the mayhem to a whole new level. Epic added the new Blitz Royale mode to Fortnite on June 18, 2025, which is currently more of a temporary event that continues until July 15. This is a battle royale game mode that throws a lower number of players onto a much smaller island map for quick matches, always less than 10 minutes long.

What’s The Blitz Royale Mode Like?

The biggest difference between Blitz Royale and the standard Fortnite Battle Royale is its size. Blitz Royale includes 32 players rather than the usual approximate 100. Blitz Royale’s island map is also much smaller than the one for 100-player matches. Consequently, the overall safe zone play area is considerably smaller, drawing all players in a match much closer together. There are usually some players near you when playing Blitz Royale.

This size difference makes Blitz Royale matches much shorter in duration. The longest Blitz Royale matches I’ve played and won haven’t lasted much longer than seven minutes. So, it seems that eight minutes is about the longest a match can feasibly last in this mode.

Blitz Level is a new gameplay mechanic in Fortnite Blitz Royale. Your Blitz Level increases when you kill more players and survive longer. Blitz leveling up rewards you with additional power-ups and stronger weaponry.

Medallions, otherwise unique abilities, are another new gameplay feature in Blitz Royale. All players land on the map equipped with the same Medallion. However, you can pick up different Medallions from Golden Supply Drops. These are the 12 Medallions in Blitz Royale:

  • Aspect of Combat (Offensive)
  • Night Rose (Offensive)
  • Ringmaster Scarr (Offensive)
  • Aspect of Speed (Movement)
  • Shrouded Striker (Movement)
  • Unstoppable (Movement)
  • Aspect of Siphon (Healing)
  • The Machinist (Healing)
  • Infernal Defenses (Healing)
  • Aspect of Agility (Wildcard)
  • Megalo Don (Wildcard)
  • Shogun X (Wildcard)

Players can pick Boons from Golden Chests when playing Fortnite Blitz Royale. Increasing the Blitz Level also gives you Boons, which are smaller buffs than Medallions. For example, the Fire Boon enables you to reload your gun quicker. These are the 10 Boons you can pick up during a Blitz match:

  • Void Boon
  • Fire Boon
  • Combat Acrobat
  • Wind Boon
  • Adrenaline Rush
  • Agile Healer Boon
  • Reactive Ping Boon
  • Vulture Boon
  • Gold Rush Boon

Another thing to note about this game mode is that the building is disabled in it. This means you can’t build any forts in Fortnite Blitz Royale. So, those players who prefer the Zero Build game mode might get more of a kick out of Blitz Royale.

There’s also a unique Blitz Knight outfit for players to unlock when playing Fortnite Blitz Royale. You can unlock this outfit by finishing in the top 10 of 20 Blitz Royale matches or by climbing 10 account levels. However, this outfit can only be selected until July 15, the closing date for the Blitz Royale mode.

The Blitz Royale Schedule

Epic has scheduled four weekly gameplay events for the limited-time Fortnite Blitz Royale mode. The events will primarily introduce new-themed weapons. This is the event scheduling for Fortnite Blitz Royale:

  • June 18: Launch Week! Includes new Mythic versions of popular weapons.
  • June 24: The Avatar Returns! Four Nations Pagodas will start appearing on the map.
  • July 1: Bad Bosses! New boss weapons will replace Bending Scrolls.
  • July 8: TMNT Melee Mayhem! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle weapons will replace the boss items.

Tips for Winning Blitz Royale Matches

The Blitz Level feature, combined with the small map size, seemingly encourages more aggressive (attacking) play for Fortnite Blitz Royale. However, I’m convinced an overly aggressive approach is not the best way to play this game mode. Even if you’re good enough to rack up 10 to 15 kills in Blitz matches, fighting through so many opponents will likely leave you with depleted health, shield, and ammunition for killing off remaining players in the late-game stage.

My preferred approach for Blitz Royale is a more defensive one. I often refrain from shooting at many players I spot during such matches (when I can), especially when they’re already engaged in combat. My tip is to let all the other players kill each other for you as much as possible, and only attack other players to go for the kills when necessary (usually nearer the end of matches). Don’t rush to join gunfights you will often see and hear that can be avoided.

I’ve won and finished second in numerous Blitz Royale matches with this more defensive, safety-first approach. Some of my Blitz wins were even one-kill victories. Never have I fallen short of the last 10 players with this defensive strategy.

Try to hang out in buildings on the map for as long as possible in Blitz Royale matches. Camping in buildings gives you much better concealment for killing time (rather than enemies) during Blitz matches. You’re much more exposed to enemy fire when in outdoor areas during Blitz Royale matches.

Always keep an eye on the closing storm (the purple area) during Fortnite Blitz Royale matches. The closing storm shrinks much faster in this game mode than in the standard battle royale. Seldom can you afford to stand around in the same area for much longer than a couple of minutes. Thus, it’s much easier to get caught out by the shrinking storm in this game mode if you don’t keep an eye on it. Getting caught in the storm will deplete health, and it’s all the more severe during the late game.

There’s usually a Rift you can use on the Blitz Royale map. Walking into a Rift drops you onto the map again for glider deployment. Try using that Rift when you’re near it, to get yourself into a better map position for end-game fighting.

Don’t use healing items like potions and medkits in open areas when playing Blitz Royale. It’s much more likely that nearby enemies will spot you healing yourself in Blitz matches and get some hits in while you’re at it. When you need to heal yourself, the best place to do it is inside buildings. Alternatively, heal yourself behind rocks, trees, walls, and other forms of cover when you’re outdoors. Hedges can also provide useful concealment for healing.

If you’ve not played Fortnite Blitz Royale yet, check it out while you can. This limited-time mode has so far been a very popular alternative to standard battle royale, peaking at around 443,379 concurrent players. Epic might perhaps restore it as a more permanent Fortnite game mode if it’s popular enough. It’s certainly a faster, more frantic game mode with much more regular gun-fighting than the 100-player battle royale.
