Playground Games Reveal Gameplay Trailer for New Fable Game

Playground Games announced it will be releasing a new Fable game reboot with a reveal trailer in 2020. Then, further Fable trailers revealed some of the in-game actors for the upcoming game in the years that followed. Playground Games confirmed the release date for Fable would be pushed back to 2026 in 2025. The PG developer has now revealed the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Fable game.

The new Fable teaser on YouTube shows us in-game PlayStation gameplay for the game. That gameplay trailer says: “Be the hero you want to be. Build an extraordinary life. Your choices change the world. Fairytale ending not guaranteed.” It also confirms an Autumn 2026 launch period for the PlayStation Fable game.

Fable is a series of action RPGs that dates back to 2004. There have been ten Fable games in total. The upcoming 2026 Fable game title is a reboot, rather than a remake, that Playground Games says is a new beginning for its series. Ralph Fulton, the Fable Game Director, said this in a recent Q&A, “We’ve always referred to this game as a ‘new beginning’, because one of the things we were convinced of was that we had to reboot the franchise.

The gameplay trailer shows that Fable 2026 will be an open-world action adventure RPG set in Albion, the fictional setting for the game’s franchise. It shows dark forests, beautiful countryside, and Bowerstone (capital of Albion). We also see some combat action in the gameplay video with the hero firing a crossbow and swinging a sword at enemies.

That video reveals the 2026 Fable game will have character customization, choices and consequences, and life simulation gameplay mechanics. Thus, the new Fable game will give players significant freedom to craft a narrative. When asked about the essence of Fable, Ralph Fulton said this: “And then it’s about choice and consequence. We call that freedom – in the sense that it’s the freedom to make the choices you want.”

The 2026 Fable game represents a shift toward a more open-world and open-ended experience for the series. The original Fable offered a degree of exploration within interconnected zones, but the core game path remained relatively linear. This reboot will be a more genuine open-world game than the original title.

Fable 2026 will probably be a huge game given its lengthy development time. It is one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the year, confirmed for an Autumn 2026 release. That means September, October, or November 2026 might be the launch month for the 2026 Fable game. Fable will be available to play on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC gaming platforms.
