Tips for Winning With the John Curtin Civ 6 Australia Leader

The John Curtin Civ 6 Australia leader is best equipped for winning scientific victories. That is primarily because of the good Campus district yield boosts you can exploit with the Land Down Under civ ability. His Outback Station infrastructure enables you to boost production yields for the space district project. Plus, the Citadel of Civilization leader bonus gives Australia a massive 10-turn production boost for completing space projects all the quicker when other countries declare war on you.

When starting a game with the Civ 6 Australia leader, try to establish more of your cities along coastlines. Then you’ll have more coastal cities with a nice +3 housing boost for stimulating their population growth. Also, keep an eye out for cattle, sheep, and horse tiles on which you can add pastures for triggering the Land Down Under culture bombs.

Establishing a suzerain at the Auckland city-state (from the Vikings Scenario pack) can also be very beneficial for an Australian civilization with many coastal shallow water tiles. The Auckland suzerain gives shallow tiles within your civilization a +1 production yield boost, which increases to +2 in the Industrial Era. So, all your Australian coastal cities will be much more productive when you have an Auckland suzerain established.

Mountains will help you better exploit the Land Down Under civ ability because of their +1 tile adjacency bonuses. So, establishing cities near them can be even more beneficial for science victories when playing as the Civ 6 Australia leader. Add your Campus districts on more appealing tiles beside mountains to reap their enhanced science yield adjacency bonuses. Then, select the Natural Philosophy policy card (or Five-Year Plan) to boost the science adjacency bonus for your Campus districts by 100%.

You can make the Land Down Under civ ability even better by building the Eiffel Tower wonder. The Eiffel Tower is a wonder that gives all the tiles within your civilization a +2 appeal bonus. Thus, building that wonder increases the number of tiles with charming and breathtaking appeal for boosting district yields in your Australian civilization.

To give your cities a production boost for space race projects, add some Outback Stations to their tiles when you’ve unlocked the Guilds civic. Try placing Outback Stations next to each other for an even greater production boost with Steam Power researched. Don’t forget you can also add them to the desert, which makes flat desert tiles more productive for Australian cities.

To exploit the Citadel of Civilization’s 100% production boost effect when building space race projects, try to provoke other civilizations into declaring war on Australia. One way you can do this is by denouncing nearby civilizations along your borders. If that’s not enough, try capturing a city-state to prompt a military emergency World Congress proposal. Then, other civilizations will declare war on you to recapture the city-state. However, make sure you’re reasonably well prepared for war beforehand.

If you don’t pursue a scientific victory, consider going for the Domination Victory when playing as the Australia Civ 6 leader. The production increases from Outback Stations will come in handy for rolling out military units faster. Plus, the Citadel of Civilization leader bonus production boosts can also be invaluable because some civilizations probably will declare war against you with military World Congress proposals passed when you’re playing for a Domination Victory in Gathering Storm.

Digger is also a strong, unique unit to deploy for military campaigns during the Modern Era. Its +5 combat strength bonus is easy to activate for wars of conquest in which Diggers will certainly fight outside of Australian territory. Place your Diggers on coastal tiles when you can do so to make them even stronger during wars.

Overall, the John Curtin Civ 6 Australia leader is one with a good leadership bonus and civ ability. His Citadel of Civilization bonus makes Australia hard to defeat for any country that declares war on it and gives space race projects a great production boost for 10 turns. Land Down Under can also notably increase science, gold, faith, and cultural yields when effectively exploited. With a decent, unique unit to boot, John has quite a lot to offer those who play for military domination or scientific victories in Civilization 6.
