A Guide to Playing as the Polish Jadwiga Civ 6 Leader in Civilization 6

Jadwiga was a 14th-century Polish queen who laid the foundations for establishing the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. She is a leader you can select to play as in Civilization 6 with the Poland Scenario Pack. Jadwiga offers a mix of religious, trading, and territorial Cultural Bombing advantages for players to exploit with her leader bonus, civ ability, and unique infrastructure.

The Lithuanian Union Leader Bonus

Jadwiga’s Lithuanian Union leader bonus enables players to convert foreign cities to Poland’s religion by taking territory from them with Culture Bombs. You can activate those Culture Bombs by building Encampments or adding Forts to tiles. Polish Holy Site districts have a +1 district adjacency bonus because of the Lithuanian Union leader bonus. This leader bonus also grants your relics a +4 gold and +2 culture yield bonus.

Poland’s Golden Liberty Civ Ability

The Golden Liberty civ ability for the Polish Jadwiga Civ 6 leader enables you to activate Culture Bombs (claim nearby surrounding tiles outside your borders) by building Encampment districts or Forts. This civ ability also converts one of your military card slots to a wildcard alternative. Wildcard slots enable you to select any economic, military, or diplomatic policy card.

Poland’s Unique Unit and Infrastructure

Sukiennice is a unique building that replaces the Market for Commercial Hub districts. This building generates +2 production yields for international trade routes sent from cities that include it. Domestic trade routes from cities that include the Sukiennice also generate +4 gold.

Winged Hussar is Poland’s unique Renaissance-era unit that replaces the Cuirassier. The Winged Hussar has a melee attack rating of 64 and can move across four tiles in a turn. What sets the Winged Hussar apart is that it pushes enemies back if it inflicts more damage when attacking. If a defending unit cannot be pushed back, Winged Hussar inflicts extra damage.

Tips for Playing as the Jadwiga Civ 6 Leader

The best victory type to play for with the Jadwiga Civ 6 leader is not especially obvious. However, Poland’s military-oriented Culture Bombing from Encampments and Forts makes domination one of the best victory conditions to go for when playing as Jadwiga. The Winged Hussar is also a very strong Renaissance unit with which to defeat enemy civilizations before the Industrial Era kicks in.

If you play for the Domination Victory condition with the Jadwiga Civ 6 leader, Culture Bombing enemy territory should be a big part of your strategy. This strategy will work better on continental maps, in which you can have more direct borders with other civilizations that aren’t separated by seas. So, select to play on a continental map to give you more opportunities for exploiting Poland’s Culture Bombs.

Then, you should build Encampment districts in your border cities to steal territory from other civilizations along your borders. Make sure you place the Encampments on tiles alongside borders so that they can take two or three hexes of territory from other civilizations. Recruit Military Engineers when you can to build many Forts along borders to amass more territory from other civilizations with culture bombs.

Make sure you establish a religion so that you can combine Poland’s religious effects with your military campaigns. To do that, select the Crusade belief for your religion that will give your units a +10 combat strength bonus when fighting units close to foreign cities that follow your religion. Then, you can exploit that Crusade belief by activating Culture Bombs that will convert foreign cities to your religion.

I also recommend building the Grand Master’s Chapel Plaza district building, which will enable you to fund your wars with faith generated. When you build that building, you can purchase more military units with your faith generated. That building effect synergizes nicely with the Lithuanian Union leader bonus that doubles the faith generated from the Holy Site district adjacency.

To further boost your military campaigns, unlock the Mercantilism civic ASAP. That will enable you to roll out the Winged Hussar cavalry, which is hard for other Renaissance Era units to counter. You can easily defeat less-advanced civilizations that haven’t reached the Renaissance Era with the Winged Hussar.

If you prefer not to wage war when playing as the Jadwiga Civ 6 leader, try exploiting the Sukiennice for scientific victories. Build a Commercial Hub with Sukiennice in your most productive city that will include your Spaceport district, along with other settlements. Then, purchase Trader Units for your Spaceport city to increase its space race project production. Five to 10 Polish international trade routes can give your Spaceport city a 10-20 production yield boost.

To further enhance productivity for space projects with Polish trade routes, select the Ecommerce policy card. That will give each of your trade routes a +2 productivity yield boost in the Gathering Storm expansion. If you combine that with the Wisselbanken policy, a Polish trade route to an allied city can generate +6 production yields.

So, the Polish Jadwiga Civ 6 leader can be a good one for military domination if you effectively mix Culture Bombing and religion with war. Roll out the Winged Hussar cavalry to trample over your enemies in military campaigns. More peaceful players can exploit the Sukiennice productivity effect for trading to give space race project production a significant boost for securing scientific triumphs.
