The Nintendo 64 is Back With an Anologue 3D N64 Remake

The Nintendo 64 was one of the best game consoles of the 1990s, even if PlayStation slightly overshadowed it. That was the game console that unleashed the era of 3D gaming with classic titles such as Mario 64, GoldenEye 64, and Zelda: Ocarina of Time. So, many players will no doubt be excited to hear that the Nintendo 64 is making a comeback with the Anologue 3D. Anologue has confirmed that the unofficial Annologue 3D N64 remake will ship on November 18, 2025.

Anologue announced its Anologue 3D N64 remake in October 2023. That retro-oriented game console was originally scheduled for a 2024 launch. However, numerous delays set the Anologue 3D’s release back until late 2025. Now, Anologue has confirmed on its website that shipping for the Anologue 3D starts on November 18. All preorders for the console ship before December 1, 2025, just in time for Xmas.

The Anologue 3D is a reimagining of the Nintendo 64 console from the 1990s. It is 100% compatible with all original N64 game cartridges from every region. In terms of aesthetic design, it looks almost identical to the original N64, albeit with an Anologue logo.

Yet, there are some notable differences between the Anologue 3D and the original Nintendo 64. Firstly, the console supports 4K resolution. That means players can play their favorite N64 games at 10 times the original resolution on modern 4K TVs.

A second significant difference is that the Anologue 3D has a modern 3D OS (the original N64 had none). That is an OS in which players can browse their N64 game libraries. It includes box art, screenshot capabilities, and display mode options for players to select.

Thirdly, the 8BitDo 64 controller is not identical to the original N64 gamepad. The 8BitDo 64 is a modern redesign of the original N64 controller with the same button layout. That incorporates a more durable HALL Effect joystick with magnetic sensors. A Bluetooth wireless version of the 8BitDo 64 is available for the Anologue 64, which is also compatible with the Switch consoles and Android mobile platforms.

As the Anologue 3D is not an official Nintendo product, some players may wonder how it is legal. The Anologue 3D is legal because it is based on an FPGA chip that replicates the original N64 hardware. It is designed only to support physical N64 cartridges, not copyrighted ROM files. Furthermore, the hardware patent on the original N64 console has expired, allowing for Anologue to release an N64 remake without Nintendo’s permission.

Nevertheless, the Anologue 3D will compete with the Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack when it comes to N64 game emulation. Switch Online’s Expansion Pack is a premium subscription that enables players to play N64, Genesis, and Game Boy Advance games. Some players have commented about the subpar N64 emulation on the Nintendo Switch Online, with audio delays and graphical issues cited. So, many players might prefer the Anologue 3D N64 remake over Switch Online for playing N64 games.

The Anologue 3D is retailing at a $249.99. However, note that the N64 remake is currently out of stock (sold out) with the console shipping to those who have already pre-ordered it from November 18. Those who have not pre-ordered will need to wait for Anologue to restock its N64 remake.

So, those players who have pre-ordered will finally get their hands on the Anologue 3D N64 remake in time for Christmas. It will be the perfect Christmas gift for Nintendo 64 retro gaming enthusiasts. Those who are not familiar with the N64 can also discover a great generation of 3D retro games on the Anologue 64, such as Perfect Dark, Majora’s Mask, Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye, Wave Race 64, and more.
