The best way to clear the infestation off the Power Pump in COD: Black Ops 7 Zombies mode

The latest entry in the iconic COD franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, launched less than a week ago on November 14, and players are already diving deep into its massive new Zombies experience: “Ashes of the Damned.” According to Treyarch, this is the first-ever map set entirely within the Dark Aether dimension and it’s also the largest round-based Zombies map in the mode’s history. Sprawling across multiple huge zones connected by fog-shrouded roads, Ashes (which is inspired by the Black Ops 2 Zombies map “Tranzit”) lets players travel between regions using teleporters, jump pads and a beat-up but essential pickup truck called Ol’ Tessie.

Even though it appears early on in the map, one particular task is already giving players trouble – especially those running it solo or those who are new to the Zombies experience. This objective requires players to restore power to the farm or cabin on the Ashes map by clearing a cluster of fungal-looking growths from a power pump.

The following guide is the best way to clear the infestation off the Power Pump in COD: Black Ops 7 Zombies mode.

Build up enough points for two weapons.
Having two guns lets you swap instantly during reloads, which becomes crucial once the timer starts.

The barn next to the Ammo Cache contains a Mystery Box where you can grab a random weapon for 900 points—an easy way to gear up early.

Try to get a weapon with a fast rate of fire.
Equip a gun with a high fire rate and solid stopping power—such as an automatic rifle or an LMG. This allows you to quickly damage infestation nodes while keeping zombies under control.

Leave one zombie alive before shooting the first infestation cluster.

Clear the round down to a single zombie so you don’t advance to the next wave. This gives you breathing room and reduces pressure when the pump spawns additional zombies.

Clearing the Infestation Clusters

Start at the front of the pump, facing the grain silo.

When you destroy the first cluster, a 30-second timer begins. Zombies will spawn from the silo to the west so position yourself to see them approaching and avoid getting surprised.

Circle the pump counterclockwise.

After clearing the front nodes, move around the pump in a counterclockwise loop while sidestepping zombies. This keeps most threats in front of you and provides a predictable, safe clearing path.

Use Equipment and Field Upgrades Wisely

Use Field Upgrades like Dark Flare or Energy Mine.
These abilities can instantly thin out zombie swarms while simultaneously damaging infestation nodes, buying you precious seconds during the timed encounter.

Leverage lethal and tactical equipment.
A well-placed Point Turret can automatically suppress incoming zombies, giving you room to focus on clearing nodes. The Cymbal Monkey, which is craftable at a workbench for 1,000 salvage can divert zombies away from the pump allowing you to safely circle and clear clusters.

Destroy the Final Growth

Clear all eight infestation nodes.
Once the smaller nodes are destroyed, a larger growth will appear on top of the Power Pump.

Destroy the top growth to complete the objective.
This final weak point must be taken out to fully purge the pump and advance to the next step of the mission.

Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
