How to Find the Death Stranding Half-Life Crossover Items

Two Death Stranding updates added more unique content to the game. Among them are six items from the game’s Half-Life crossover. Death Stranding includes six contracts in which you can find companion cubes that unlock special Half-Life items when retrieved. You’ll gradually receive Half-Life emails (marked with λ logos) as you progress through the game that tell you about the cubes you can recover. This is how you can find all the Death Stranding Half-Life crossover items.

Gordon Freeman’s Glasses

Benjamin H sends you the first Death Stranding Half-Life mission email with the λ logo during Episode 2. He asks you to find the missing cube cargo along the river near Capitol Knot City. First, head to Capital Knot City on the Eastern Region map.

Then, walk directly north from Capital Knot until you reach the river. When you reach the river, walk in an easterly direction along its banks until you see the missing cube cargo you’re looking for. You’ll probably find the cargo in the approximate area along the river circled in the image below.

When you’ve retried the first cube cargo, return to Capital Know City to deliver it. You’ll receive Gordon Freeman’s glasses, which are the first of the Death Stranding Half-Life crossover items. Press the 4 key on the keyboard (or the D-pad for console players) to select and try on the glasses.

The Half-Life Valve

This Death Stranding Half-Life crossover valve item is a relatively straightforward one to find. First, check your mail for a message from William L (marked with the λ). He asks you to look for and retrieve a cube near Peter Englert’s shelter.

Go to Peter Englert’s prepper shelter, which will be clearly marked on the map if you’ve been there before. If you need more help finding it, walk in an almost exact easterly direction from Lake Knot City to reach that shelter on the north side of the map. Then, look for and pick up the companion cube along the side of Peter Englert’s shelter. Deliver that cargo to Lake Knot city to receive a wearable Half-Life valve you can stick on Sam’s head.

Gravity Gloves

To obtain the Gravity Gloves Death Stranding Half-Life crossover item, check your mail for a λ message from Thomas S. He tells you to find his cube northwest of the Distribution Center South of Lake Knot City. The Mules have nicked it, and you need to get it back.

First, bring some non-lethal weaponry with you, as you’ll probably need to fight off some Mules to retrieve this cube cargo. Then, go to the Mule camp northwest of Distribution Center South of Lake Knot City, circled below. You’ll find the cube in one of the tents within that camp.

Deliver the retrieved cube cargo to the Distribution Center South of Lake Knot City as instructed. Then, you’ll receive the Gravity Gloves Death Stranding Half-Life crossover item. That is an upgrade that lets you remotely pull in nearby cargo. You can fabricate the Gravity Gloves with the blueprint you receive by completing this mission.

The Headcrab Hat

You can obtain the Headcrab Death Stranding crossover item by completing a cube delivery for the Paleontologist prepper. If you’re not already familiar with the Paleontologist, then continue playing through the main story missions until you encounter him. Check your mail for a Paleontologist λ message, in which he’ll give you some vague instructions for retrieving lost cube cargo in an old ruin.

To find that lost cargo, go to the ruin location circled on the map below. That ruin location is actually closest to the Geologist prepper, south of the heart-shaped lake near Heartman’s Lab. You might encounter some BTs en route, so equip yourself with Hematic Grenades to be prepared.

When you’ve retrieved the cube cargo, deliver it to the Paleontologist prepper. The Paleontologist will give you a trendy Headcrab hat to try on for delivering the goods. That hat also replenishes stamina from Sam’s blood when needed.

Half-Life Truck

You can obtain a groovy Half-Life truck by finding and delivering a lost cube for T Southerland. Have a look through your mail for a λ message from Mr. Southerland. He instructs you to head to the Craftsman’s shelter and head northwest to reach a ruined factory along a highway.

To be more specific, go to the Craftman’s shelter and then to the factory location circled in the snapshot directly below. There will be BTs there, and it might actually be easier to let them grab you to clear the timefall storm. The lost cube is by a tractor in a fenced area just outside the factory building.

Take and deliver the cube to the Distribution Center South of Lake Knot City. Mr Southerland will give you the blueprints for fabricating a half-life truck. Then you can fabricate the truck and retrieve it from the garage at the Distribution Center, South of Lake Knot City.

Combine Strider Hologram

The Combine Strider hologram is the hardest Deathstranding Half-Life crossover item to obtain. When you’ve completed the game, look for and read a λ message from Benjamin Hancock. He tells you to look for a cube at a ruined shopping mall around Middle Knot City.

Middle Knot City is a destroyed prepper shelter that’s not on the map. To find it, you must go to the location in the far north of the map, circled in the snapshot below. That’s an area just below the impact crater at the top of the map.

To reach the cube, bring a PCC and 800 metal for constructing a bridge, some Hematic Grenades, and a ladder. When you’re in the required area, you’ll need to build a bridge over a tar belt. Then, walk over the bridge and place a ladder over another stretch of tar to get to the companion cube. Chuck your Hematic Grenades at any BTs around the cube to retrieve them.

Then, you’ll need to burn the companion cube collected. Take the cube to the Incinerator West of Lake Knot City, where you can burn the cube. Then, you’ll receive a couple of messages thanking you for completing the message and the Strider Hologram Death Stranding Half-Life crossover item. You can place that hologram beside player-built structures by selecting it via the menus for them. For example, select Structure Menu for a postbox and choose the Strider Hologram from there.

Finding the Death Stranding Half-Life crossover items won’t necessarily help that much for completing the game. However, some HL items, such as the Gravity Gloves and Headcrab Hat, can come in handy. The HL items are mostly novelties rather than serious equipment, but the Half-Life missions are fun additional game content to check out nonetheless.
