Venom has been a popular first pick for many players since the launch of Marvel Rivals, quickly establishing himself as one of the game’s top vanguard choices. As a tank, he can soak up significant damage for his team, and his rapid health regeneration often makes him the safest and most reliable pick in a match. On the opposing side, however, Venom can be a real menace—disruptive, durable, and capable of dishing out serious damage. Fortunately, he’s not invincible. With the right strategy, even this fearsome symbiote can be brought down.
How to Counter Venom in Marvel Rivals
Venom is a wild beast that inflicts AoE (area of effect) damage. His divebomb ability, Frenzied Arrival, knocks enemies into the air. Venom’s skill set is more suited for engaging enemies rather than protecting his team. His ultimate ability also has a good range and deals significant damage, especially since it’s an AoE attack.

Venom Overview
In addition to his offensive capabilities, Venom’s bonus health ability, Symbiote Resistance, allows him to gain 100 bonus health and convert 120 percent of his lost health into bonus health. This means the more you attack him, the more health he gains in return.
When it comes to countering Venom, your best strategy is to use long-range attacks and try to isolate him from his team. If you must fight him up close, it’s important to have a healing ally nearby, as Venom relies on absorbing and blocking damage. Be sure to flee as far as possible when his teammates come to assist—he can easily overpower you even with just one ally backing him up. The key to beating Venom is consistent team pressure; force him to retreat and keep him from regaining control.
Best Characters to Counter Venom
The best counter for you is to select the best character against him. With over 30 characters, few can evade Venom’s attack easily, and actually outpower him.
Mantis

Mantis Overview
Most of the time, Venom follows you around, and it gives him an advantage against you, as he can easily outpower you in close combat. Mantis can stop him in his tracks using her Spore Slumber, leaving him vulnerable.
The best thing to do in that timeframe is to ask your team to direct all attacks to Venom when he’s vulnerable. That way, he won’t have much time to regenerate and rejoin his team.
Wolverine
Venom is an aggressive character, but the same goes for Wolverine, and the smarter one can easily win. However, Wolverine has one advantage: his immense damage output. When in close combat with Venom, he can use his Feral Leap ability along with his Vicious Rampage ability to deal a ton of damage.
Wolverine’s passive abilities are what make him a great opponent against Venom. He can automatically heal and get rid of debuffs when not in combat. However, the best one is that the more damage he takes, the more powerful his claws deal damage.
The Punisher
In a nutshell, no one can bring down the health bar of an opponent faster than The Punisher. The disadvantage to his Culling Turret, which deals the most damage to the opponents, is the long cooldown and the fact that you’re immobile while using it. However, it can really drink up your opponent’s health and also act as a shield.
Even if you’re cornered by Venom, you can quickly use The Punisher’s grappling hook and get out of the combat. But the best thing about him is his Ultimate, which uses two Gatling guns and shoulder-mounted missiles, which can take out Venom in a short span of time.
Iron Man

Iron Man Overview
Venom might have great AoE attacks, but he can’t do anything to an airborne target. That’s why Iron Man works so great against him, because the only option Venom has is his Swing ability. If you activate the Armor Overdrive ability, it also greatly enhances the damage output of Repulsor Blast and Unibeam of Iron Man.
You can also try to separate Venom from his teammates by going behind his back quickly using Hyper Velocity, and attacking him.
Magneto

Magneto Overview
It’s not easy to overpower Venom in hand-to-hand combat; that’s why the strategy with Magneto is to use his Metallic Curtain barrier to block Venom’s basic attacks. Moreover, Magneto can also shield your teammate using his Metal Bulwark ability for a while, saving him while he’s getting overpowered by Venom.
Not only that, whenever your shielded ally is attacked by Venom, it’ll buff Magneto by providing him with rings on his back that can later be fired using his Mag-Cannon technique.
