MiHoYo Reveals the Dreams Bygone Zenless Zone Zero Update

Zenless Zone Zero is the latest gacha (free-to-play) game from miHoYo, released last year. That is a game miHoYo expands with story updates that add new chapters, characters, and other gameplay features to ZZZ. Now, miHoYo has recently revealed details for its upcoming “Memories of Dreams Bygone” Zenless Zone Zero update scheduled for release during October.

The miHoYo ZZZ developer added a video preview for the version 2.3 “Memories of Dreams Bygone” update to YouTube on September 29. That preview shows extensive gameplay footage from the latest update and the new things it will add to Zenless Zone Zero. The Zenless Zone Zero website also revealed the latest update with a “Memories of Dreams Bygone” intel report page.

The latest Zenless Zone Zero update will introduce the new Timesworn Hill location. That new, spooky location is a part of the larger Lemnian Hollow. It is an ore-rich region that includes abandoned testing grounds and research facilities for players to explore.

The “Memories of Dreams Bygone” story is set within the Timesworn Hill location. There, players will collaborate with the Spook Shack faction and investigate the disappearance of miners and  Porcelumex employees to reveal more about the Timesworn Hill ghost stories. The new storyline expansion primarily focuses on a confrontation with hypnotists who manipulate dreams.

Lucia, Komanto Manato, and Yidhari are three new agent characters the Dreams Bygone update will add to Zenless Zone Zero. Komanto is an A-Rank Fire Rapture Agent that players will obtain after completing the “When Dreams Remain Unfinished” event. Lucia is an S-Rank Agent who can recreate Etherals when engaged in combat. The new story update explores the backstory of Yidhari, an S-Rank Agent who can inflict increasing damage as her HP drops.

“When Dreams Remain Unfinished” is a limited-time event in the Dreams Bygone update. During that event, players will enter Yidhari’s dreamscape to reveal details of her past. That event will feature a unique turn-based combat system with players controlling different types of monsters for more tactical battles.

The Deems Bygone Zenless Zone Zero update will also introduce additional new game modes, such as Threshold Simulation and SNAP! Shining Strike. Threshold Simulation is a new mode in which players can deploy squads across interrelated back-to-back combat battles. SNAP! Shining Strike is an upgraded photography event returning to ZZZ, which includes some new camera features.

Although Zenless Zone Zero had initially strong downloads when released last year, it has failed to match Genshin Impact and Honkai Rail. ZZZ generated $442.1 million in mobile spending over its first year. In comparison, both Genshin Impact and Honkai Rail each generated more than $1 billion over their first years. Zenless Zone Zero has a generally favorable Metacritic rating of 77 for PC (72 for mobile), but some players like it and others don’t.

So, miHoYo will no doubt hope the new Dreams Bygone Zenless Zone Zero update gives ZZZ a significant boost for the rest of 2025. The miHoYo developer will roll out the latest update for Zenless Zone Zero on October 15, 2025. So, make that a date for your diary to have fun exploring the spooky world of Timesworn Hill and playing through the new Dreams Bygone story campaign in Zenless Zone Zero.
