Fans of Halo Infinite‘s multiplayer experience look like they’ll have many of their thoughts and prayers answered with the glut of new content on its way — including Flood-based cosmetics, the inclusion of enemy AI in Forge mode, the capacity to unlock Master Chief’s armor core and the return of the popular Firefight PVE mode — in the upcoming Season 5, what about fans of the game’s story mode? That is, when will the next Halo campaign be released?

343 has already stated that there weren’t any plans for further Halo Infinite campaign content, like campaign DLC for instance, “beyond conversations,” and that the “focus has been entirely on the live service.” There’s also the infamous “I’m gonna cut you off there, Evan” incident between Halo community director Brian Jarrard and a fan who expressed his love for the Halo Infinite campaign at the 2023 Halo World Championship, which seems to corroborate the fact that no further Halo Infinite campaign content is in the works.

While the fact that no further Halo Infinite campaign content is coming might be a disappointment to diehard Halo fans, the silver lining is that the next Halo campaign is in the works and that it will likely be developed on the Unreal engine, as opposed to the Slipspace engine, which 343 Industries developed from the ground up and was used for Infinite. The information comes courtesy of Ains, the editor-in-chief of Seasoned Gaming.

“Do I have any info on the Halo campaign? The short answer is nothing specific,” Ains said on the latest SG Bitcast podcast. What I can say, what I know anyway, is that yes, they do have a team working on the next Halo campaign. It is part of the restructure that is building the next generation of Halo on Unreal,” Ains said in the latest SG Bitcast podcast.

“I think I told a friend the other day that the earliest I would expect to see another Halo single-player campaign outside of Firefight and stuff they’re doing in Infinite, is a couple years,” Ains added. “It’s going to be a while so don’t hold your breath.”

Will the next Halo campaign expand upon the direction Halo Infinite took, which introduced open-world elements to the series for the first time or will it instead to the story-focused, mission-based structure of previous Halo installments?
