The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and although nothing has been officially announced at this point, Tony Hawk himself revealed that he has been talking to Activision again to coincide with the milestone.
“I wish I could tell you more, but I can tell you that I’ve been talking to Activision again, we’re working on something,” Hawk said on a recent episode of Mythical Kitchen.
Hawk added, “It will be something the fans will truly appreciate.”
What sort of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater offering from Activision to correspond with the franchise’s 25th anniversary would be something that the fans would truly appreciate? A remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 to go along with the remake of the first two games by Vicarious Visions in 2020? Remakes of the Tony Hawk Underground series? Whatever the case, if Tony Hawk himself says we’ll appreciate what’s being cooked up, we believe him.
Back in 2022, Hawk revealed on a Twitch livestream that Activision had planned to make remakes of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 but weren’t happy with the pitches from developers after Vicarious Visions was absorbed by publisher Activision Blizzard.
“That was the plan, even up until the release date of [Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2],” Hawk explained. “We were doing 3 and 4, and then Vicarious got kind of absorbed, and then they were looking for other developers, and then it was over.”
Hawk added, “The truth of it is [Activision] were trying to find somebody to do 3 and 4 but they just didn’t really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious.
“So they took other pitches from other studios, like, ‘what would you do with the THPS title?’ And they didn’t like anything they heard, and then that was it.
“Who knows? Maybe when the dust settles, we’ll figure it out. You never know. I never would’ve thought we were going to do 1 and 2 20 years later.”
What do you think of the news that Tony Hawk says he has been ‘talking to Activision’ again? Which installments from the pro skater’s iconic video game franchise would you like to see remade next? Let us know in the comments.
Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
