A guide on what to do after beating the final boss in Act III of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Sandfall Interactive’s Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has a lot going for it as a gaming experience: it’s visually striking, narratively rich, uniquely crafted, intellectually engaging, highly immersive and on top of it all – challenging.

Even after defeating the final boss in Act III of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the challenge doesn’t end—the game opens up an expansive post-game phase, packed with new content and previously inaccessible areas on the overworld map.

There’s one big problem with all this new terrain to explore however: if you simply wander — or fly and amble around with Esquie — and attempt to fight the first overworld enemies you come across, you may quickly become frustrated as your level 50 team gets stomped by level 60–70+ monsters. So where should you head first to begin leveling up after defeating the final boss in Act III of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

The following is a list in order of what to do after beating the final boss in Act III of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Sprong and the Cheater Pictos

Sprong is an enormous Nevron boss found standing in the ocean southwest of the Blades’ Graveyard and northwest of the Stone Wave Cliffs.

Note: To reach Sprong, you’ll need to have Esquie’s swimming ability unlocked.

Sprong is a boss worthy of his colossal stature, boasting over 2 million HP and offering no exploitable damage weaknesses or free-aim vulnerabilities. His attacks follow a four-stage recurring pattern, including two- and four-hit melee combos where he slams his fists into the sandy shoreline, a party-wide eye-laser assault called Sabotage that can inflict Exhausted status, and a delayed, wide-reaching attack known as Extermination Boom.

Defeating Sprong nets you 3 Grandiose Chroma Catalyst, 880,000 XP and the highly valuable Cheater Pictos, arguably the best Pictos in the game.

True to its name, the Cheater Pictos allows a character to attack twice in a row. It’s best suited for your top damage dealer, though its hefty cost of 40 Lumina Points means you won’t be equipping your entire team with it anytime soon. Still, it’s a game-changing asset that can significantly boost your damage output—just make sure you’ve unlocked Painted Power first, another vital Pictos which in concert with Cheater will make the rest of the challenges on this list far more manageable.

The Chosen Path

Players should head to The Chosen Path first after beating the final boss in Act III of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as it’s the most undemanding postgame content on this list.

The Chosen Path is located on a floating isle north of The Carousel. At the end of the path, players will find a statue surrounded by five canvases — each representing a boss. For each battle, players must choose one character to fight, and once selected, that character cannot be used again for the remaining encounters. Choose the order of your characters carefully to ensure success.

The Endless Tower

The Endless Tower is a dungeon found northwest of the Gestral Village; more specifically in the bottom right corner of a large gold and black circular emblem.

Although the Endless Tower, a challenging gauntlet with 33 floors – each containing three increasingly difficult stages and enemies – is technically meant to be one of the final endgame challenges, you can still dip into the early stages to earn some much-needed rewards. The first three stages, in particular, are great for picking up valuable experience, Grandiose Chroma Catalysts, and Color of Lumina.

Grandiose Chroma Catalysts, which are essential for upgrading your weapons from level 20 to 32, become especially important in the late game. So grab as many as you can from the early stages of the Endless Tower—just don’t push much beyond Stage 4 for now—then head on to the next spot on our list.

Maelle’s Quest, The Reacher

The Reacher—a towering, hodgepodge structure of wooden platforms that hides a secret Axon at its summit—can be found west of Visages Island. To unlock the location, you’ll need to speak with Maelle at camp; try to enter beforehand, and Verso will simply warn the group, “We shouldn’t go in there.”

Once inside, your team will square off against strange Renoir-crafted enemies – like the Orphelin, who have bundled-up rope and rusty nails for heads – and various other Nexons perfect for leveling up from the mid-60s and beyond.

The final boss you encounter here plays a significant role in both the overarching narrative and the dynamics of the Dessendre family, making this post-game location worth visiting not just for its challenging combat, valuable rewards, and unique cosmetics, but also for a more complete and impactful story experience.

Frozen Hearts

After clearing the Reacher, your next stop should be the Frozen Heart, found northeast of Monoco’s Station and just east of the Carousel.

This area is perfect for post-game grinding—enemies here frequently drop Grandiose Chroma Catalyst, which you can use to continue upgrading your weapons. It’s also a solid spot to farm XP until all the way to Level 70.

Dark Shores

Warning: Spoilers for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ahead.

Time for a little payback.

Dark Shore will be familiar to players as the landing site of Expedition 33 in Act I – where the squad is brutally wiped out by Renoir and some terrifying high-level Nevrons.

From both a narrative and gameplay standpoint, it’s a bit rough that Gustav, Lune, Maelle, and the rest of the team touched down as level 1s in a zone crawling with level 70 monsters—but hey, c’est la vie in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The good news? Now that your team is properly leveled, fully geared, and stocked with upgraded weapons, Pictos, and Lumina Points, it’s time to return—and take revenge on the monsters that wiped out your crew.

Dark Shores appears as a purple beach far south on the map, northwest of Lumiere and south of Spring Meadows. The caliginous-colored, big-handed monsters here, called Noir, yield an abundance of experience and Grandiose Chroma Catalyst.

You can use Dark Shores to grind to level 75, 80, 90 and beyond.

Endless Night Sanctuary

Another area you can grind for experience and mats concurrently with Dark Shores for levels 70 and beyond is the Endless Night Sanctuary, an endgame location found in the red forest on the far eastern side of the map.

The Endless Night Sanctuary features stronger versions of the Sakapatate that players squared off against in the Gestral Village during Act II, such as the Ranger Sakapatate, the Robust Sakapatate and the Catapult Sakapatate – all of whom yield a generous amount of experience points.

The Endless Night Sanctuary also features two bosses: Ultimate Sakapatate and the Chromatic Cruler.

Flying Manor

The Flying Manor is located at the heart of The Continent, atop a floating isle accessible by flying with Esquie. This isle lies northwest of the Forgotten Battlefield and west of one of the entrances to the Painting Workshop.

While it’s possible to take on The Flying Manor alongside Dark Shores and the Endless Night Sanctuary, it’s recommended to wait until Level 75 due to its high difficulty. The area features five formidable bosses, culminating in a final encounter with a pivotal character in the main storyline — Maelle’s sister, Clea — whose identity is revealed at the end of Act II.

Defeating these bosses rewards players with Perfect Chroma Catalysts, essential materials used to upgrade weapons to their maximum level.

Drafts of Renoir

Drafts of Renoir – the most challenging content in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, based on mob experience yield and boss difficulty – is located in the northern region of The Continent, southeast of Visages’ isle and southwest of Sirene. It’s recommended that your party be at least Level 80 to stand a fair chance against the powerful enemies within.

The postgame dungeon becomes accessible only after Esquie learns the diving ability, which is unlocked by reaching friendship level 6 with him. Its entrance appears as a circular structure emitting bubbles.

Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
