A Guide to Playing as the Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt Leader in Civilization 6

Teddy Roosevelt was a former American president renowned for his conservation of nature and progressive reforms. He is one of the American leaders you can select to play as in Civilization 6, alongside Lincoln. The Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt leader is one who offers some notable cultural, military, and diplomatic advantages for players to exploit in Civilization 6.

The Roosevelt Corollary Leader Bonus

The Roosevelt Corollary is the leader bonus that gives all American units on your home continent a +5 combat strength bonus. That Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt leader bonus gives all tiles within cities that include National Parks a +1 appeal increase. Researching Rifling also unlocks an additional Rough Rider unique unit for America, thanks to the Roosevelt Corollary leader bonus.

The American Founding Fathers’ Civ Ability

Founding Fathers is an American civ ability that accumulates legacy bonuses in half the normal time within the vanilla Civilization 6 game. Thus, this civ ability effectively doubles the government legacy bonuses for America in the vanilla game.

However, the Founding Fathers’ ability is not the same in Gathering Storm and Rising Fall. That ability converts all your government diplomatic policy card slots to wildcard alternatives in those DLCs. Each wildcard slot also generates +1 diplomatic favor per turn in the Gathering Storm DLC.

The American Unique Infrastructure and Units

Film Studio is a unique American building that replaces the Broadcast Center. The Film Studio generates 100% tourism pressure from cities that include it towards other civilizations within the Modern Era. Thus, this unique building effectively doubles tourism output to Modern Era civilizations.

The P-51 is a unique American unit that replaces standard Fighters. That unit has a melee combat strength rating of 105, which is five higher than the Fighter. The P-51 has a better range with a movement rating of 10. It also has a +5 combat strength bonus for attacking standard Fighter units.

Rough Rider is another unique unit for the Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt leader. That is cavalry replacement for the Cuirassier with a melee combat strength rating of 67. Rough Rider has a +10 combat strength bonus when on hill tiles. The Rough Rider also generates additional culture when it kills units on your capital’s continent.

Tips for Playing as the Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt Leader

The Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt leader is best suited for securing cultural victories in Civilization 6. That is mainly because of the substantial tourism that America’s Film Studio buildings can generate. Having more wildcard slots in Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm will enable you to select more cards that generate cultural great person points. The Roosevelt Corollary leader bonus can come in handy for increasing tile appeal ratings in cities, enabling you to establish more Seaside Resorts and National Parks.

First, make sure you select a continental map when setting up a game for the Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt leader. Playing on a continental map will enable you to better exploit the Roosevelt Corollary +5 combat strength bonus. Even if you’re not playing for a Domination Victory, that bonus will help you crush barbarian units during the early game. So, select to play on either the Continents or Small Continents maps.

Note that you’ll need some faith output to purchase Naturalist units with which to establish more National Parks when playing for a cultural victory with the Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt Leader. To boost your faith output, select the Earth Goddess pantheon. The Earth Goddess pantheon generates +1 faith for tiles with breathtaking appeal in Gathering Storm. Earth Goddess has good potential synergy value with the Roosevelt Corollary bonus that increases tile appeal in cities that include National Parks.

To further enhance tile appeal across your American civilization, build the Eiffel Tower wonder. That wonder will increase the appeal ratings of all tiles within your civilization by +2. Thus, building that wonder will enable you to establish more Seaside Resorts and National Parks. It will also increase the tourism value of Seaside Resorts and National Parks.

Finally, make sure you prioritize building Film Studios across your American civilization during the mid to late game. Building that unique building will double tourism output for other civilizations in the Modern Era. To further boost your Film Studios, select the Satellite Broadcasts policy card that will increase tourism generated by great musical works in them by 200%.

If you’re playing Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm, the additional wildcard policy slots for the Civ 6 Roosevelt Leader can come in handy for securing cultural victories. Prioritize upgrading governments to increase the number of wildcard slots you have. You can then select more wildcard policies that generate great person points, such as Symphonies and Frescoes. Wildcards like Space Tourism can also be strong policies to select for securing a cultural victory.

Diplomacy is a good alternative victory condition to go for when playing as the Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt leader in Gathering Storm. Make sure you select Digital Democracy government in the late game, which will give you +8 diplomatic favor per turn for all its wildcard policy card slots. Selecting the Diplomatic Capital wildcard policy will further increase your diplomatic favor by +4 per turn.

I also recommend building the Forbidden Palace and Potala Palace wonders when playing as the Civ 6 Roosevelt leader. Building those wonders will grant your American civilization two additional wildcard slots in Gathering Storm and Rise and Fall. Those wonders combined will give your American civilization an additional +2 diplomatic favor per turn in Gathering Storm. Plus, the Potala Palace will give you an extra Diplomatic Victory condition point.

So, the Civ 6 Teddy Roosevelt leader is a good choice for securing cultural and diplomacy victories in the Gathering Storm expansion. The American Founding civ ability makes Teddy one of the best in the game for securing a Diplomatic Victory. However, he is generally best suited for cultural domination with his Film Studio infrastructure and Corollary leader bonus.
