A Guide to Playing as the Indonesian Gitarja Civ 6 Leader in Civilization 6

Gitarja was the monarch of Majapahit during the 14th century who expanded the Majapahit empire. She is also a leader you can select to play as in Civilization 6 with the Khmer and Indonesia Scenario Pack. The Indonesian Gitarja Civ 6 leader offers players some notable faith and cultural advantages with her leader bonus, unique infrastructure, and civ ability.

Gitarja’s Exalted Goddess Leader Bonus

Exalted Goddess is the Gitarja Civ 6 leader bonus that enables you to purchase sea units with faith output. However, the best effect this leader bonus has is that each city center placed beside a coast or lake tile generates +2 faith. This leader bonus also enables your religious units to embark or disembark without movement cost.

The Indonesian Great Nusantara Civ Ability

The Great Nusantara Indonesian civ ability for the Gitarja Civ 6 leader gives your Holy Sites, Theater Square, Campus, and Industrial Zone districts a +0.5 adjacency bonus when placed beside coast or lake tiles. This civ ability also provides a +1 amenity bonus for Entertainment Complex districts placed beside coast or lake tiles.

The Unique Indonesian Infrastructure and Unit

Jong is a unique Indonesian unit that replaces the Frigate. This unit has a melee attack rating of 45 and a ranged combat rating of 55. It can cross five tiles a turn, which is one more than a Frigate. The Jong naval unit receives a +5 combat strength bonus when placed in formation.

The Kampung is a unique Indonesian infrastructure for coastal and lake tiles. A Kampung added to a coast or lake tile generates +1 production and +1 housing. The production and housing Kampung generate increases with Mass Production and Civil Engineering unlocked. It will also generate a +1 food yield when placed by a Fishing Boat. Plus, Kampung provides tourism for its bonus food yields with the Flight technology researched.

Tips for Playing as the Gitarja Civ 6 Leader

The Gitarja Civ 6 leader is best suited for securing a religion victory because of her Exalted Goddess of Three Worlds leader bonus. That bonus can increase your faith output for recruiting religious units by 20-30, with 10 to 15 coastal or lake cities. When combined with the Holy Site adjacency district from the bonus from Great Nusantara, you can obtain higher faith output with Gitarja than most other civilization leaders.

As Indonesia is more of a a coastal civilization, select to play on a map that’s better for naval gameplay when starting a game. Maps such as Archipelago, Small Continents, and Island Planes are better for Indonesia because they feature more water and more smaller land masses. Do not select to play on continent maps that are more land-focused.

During the early game period, try to establish most of your cities alongside coastlines or landscapes to exploit the Exalted Goddess leader bonus. When you must establish cities further inland, look for lakes that you can settle by. You’ll immediately benefit from the +2 faith generated by each of your coastal or lake cities, helping you select a Pantheon belief early. To further boost your faith output for a Religious Victory, select a pantheon like Earth Goddess, Religious Idols, or Stone Circles.

Placing most of your cities beside coastal or lake tiles will also enable you to fully exploit the Great Nusantara district adjacency bonus. If playing for a Religious Victory, place your Holy Sites alongside coastal or lake tiles to further boost faith output with the Great Nusantara civ ability. Then, select the Scripture policy card that will boost your Holy Site adjacency bonus by 100% to turbocharge the Great Nustantara district adjacency effect.

I also recommend building the Grand Master’s Chapel Plaza district building when playing as the Indonesian Gitarja Civ 6 leader. Building the Grand Chapel will enable you to purchase military units with your higher Indonesia faith output. Plus, it also gives your civilization’s faith output a +5 boost in Gathering Storm.

If you prefer not to play for a Religious Victory with the Gitarja Civ 6, culture can be a good alternative. That is primarily because of her Kampung infrastructure that generates tourism from its food yields. However, make sure you add Fishing Boats to all tiles beside Kampungs to fully exploit their tourism potential later in a game.

The higher faith output you can generate when playing as the Gitarja Civ 6 leader can also help secure cultural victories. For example, you can purchase Naturalists (for founding National Parks) and Rock Bands with faith to give your Indonesian civilization a boost. If you select the Jesuit Education religion belief, you can also purchase Theater Square district buildings with faith. Plus, faith is a currency for the patronage of cultural great persons.

Don’t forget that the Great Nusantara civ ability also enhances Entertainment Complexes built beside a lake or coastal tiles with a +1 amenity bonus. It’s worth building Entertainment Complexes for cultural victories in Gathering Storm because their buildings generate additional tourism. The +1 amenity the Great Nusantara provides for coastal Entertainment Complexes gives you all the more reason to build them when playing as the Gitarja Civ 6 leader.

So, the Indonesian Gitarja Civ 6 leader can be a good choice for players seeking religious or cultural victories in Civilization 6. You can turbocharge your faith output for recruiting religious units, Naturalists, or cultural great persons with the Exalted Goddess leader bonus and Great Nusantara civ ability. Add the Kampung infrastructure to coastal tiles and build Entertainment Complexes to attract more tourists to your civilization for an Indonesian cultural victory. Whatever victory condition you aim for, you must establish a coastal civilization when playing with Indonesia.
