Fortnite Save the World Will be Free to Play

Save the World has been Fortnite’s premium paid mode, featuring permanent quests that rewarded players with V-Bucks. Now, Epic has announced that Save the World will be free-to-play starting April 16.

A new Epic Fortnite video on YouTube confirms Save the World will become a free-to-play mode next month. The video showcased some Fortnite Save the World gameplay footage and confirmed that Save the World will become available for the Switch 2 (it remains unavailable on the original Switch and mobile devices). The Save the World mode will be freely available for all gaming platforms on which you can play it.

For those not familiar with it, Fortnite Save the World is a unique player-vs-environment game mode. It includes teams of four players who fight alongside each other to kill off hordes of monsters with a variety of weapons. Players can construct forts around defensive objects that help them fend off the storm of monsters. Thus, it’s like a survival co-op and tower defence game mode mixed into one.

Many players who’ve not played Fortnite Save the World will no doubt be excited by this news. This will effectively be like a new game mode for a lot of players when unleashed in April. Epic has started a community goal event to celebrate the announcement. This event enables players to contribute to community milestone goals by registering on this website. All registered participants will receive additional in-game rewards for reaching milestones.

However, it’s not all good news for Fortnite fanatics. This news has coincided with another March announcement that Epic is increasing the cost of V-Bucks. Epic will now be offering fewer V-Bucks for the same pack pricing. For example, $8.99 will purchase 800 V-Bucks rather than 1,000 from March 19. The V-Buck packs pricing will be as follows:

  • 800 V-Bucks: $8.99
  • 2,400 V-Bucks: $22.99
  • 4,500 V-Bucks: $36.99
  • 12,500 V-Bucks: $89.99
  • Exact Amount Pack: $0.99 for 50

What this basically means is Epic is hiking the cost of in-game Fortnite purchases. Nor will the free Fortnite Save the World mode give players a chance to accumulate V-Bucks through daily quests and challenges like Founders. Players playing the free Save the World mode will only receive X-Ray Tickets for Llamas. One player said this in a comment for the Save the World goes free announcement video: “It is confirmed that Founders will continue to get V-Bucks, which is great and all, but let’s not forget about that abysmal V-Bucks pricing change.

So, there’s good and bad news for Fortnite. However, most players will be excited to get a chance to play a free Save the World game mode. Are you ready to fight off the monster hordes in Fortnite Save the World?
