Remedy released the original Control game in 2019, which turned out to be one of the most exciting third-person shooter games for some time. Control was a great game with breathtaking art design, stylish physics combat, and immersive world-building within the dynamically shifting Oldest House. The Control franchise sales eclipsed the five million mark during 2025. Remedy has now revealed its Control Resonant Control sequel this December 2025.
Remedy originally announced a new Control game to be in development in late November 2022. Then, Remedy confirmed it was developing a Control sequel in partnership with 505 Games. That changed when Remedy purchased full rights to the Control franchise. Remedy then established a partnership with Annapurna for the game.
The Control sequel, which has been in development since 2022, is now seemingly almost ready for launch. Remedy took its chance to reveal Control Resonant at The Game Awards 2025 on December 11. The developer showcased a new Control Resonant trailer during the Game Awards, offering a first glimpse of the game.
That game trailer revealed two important things about the Control sequel. Firstly, that Dylan Faden, rather than the Federal Bureau of Control Director Jesse, will be the start of the show in Control Resonant. Dylan is on a mission to find his sister in the sequel, which is a role reversal from the original. He wields his own set of supranatural abilities and a new shapeshifting melee weapon called the Aberrant.
The second most important reveal is that the Control sequel is not confined to the Oldest House headquarters of the FBC like the original game. Dylan exits the Oldest House to enter Manhattan during the trailer. Players can explore a distorted Manhattan invaded by a cosmic threat that has twisted reality in Control Resonant.

Remedy also released a press release announcement for its Control sequel. An interesting thing to note about that release is that it describes Resonant as an open-ended action-adventure RPG, hinting that it could have stronger role-playing game elements than its predecessor.
Although Control Resonant is a sequel, Remedy considers the game to be a standalone companion and a new entry point. Control Resonant’s Creative Director said this: “You don’t have to know the first game to jump into the sequel, we’ve made this one easy to pick up and hard to put down. We’re pushing the scale beyond anything we’ve done before, elevating combat, exploration, and storytelling into a bigger, more memorable experience.”
The end of the Control Resonant trailer confirms Remedy plans to release the new game in 2026. However, the video does not reveal a specific release date. Remedy will release Control Resonant on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC.

So, this is the new game that millions of Control fans have been waiting for since completing the original. However, Control Resonant will still be reasonably accessible for those who have not played the first game. The Control sequel starring Dylan Faden could be one of the most exciting games of 2026.
