Fans of id Software/Bethesda Softwork’s 2016 first-person shooter Doom might be wondering, “Where the hell is the Pistol in Doom Eternal?”
It’s there, just not in the final cut in the game, as Rocket Workz Senior Director Dave Oshry divulged on Twitter:
You've probably heard by now that DOOM Eternal originally had a pistol and YES it's still in the game and accessible via console commands (with Cheat Engine)
I've heard it was scrapped because it didn't really fit the combat flow.
Still pretty sweet looking. pic.twitter.com/FZFmrhQwCB

To access the pistol, players will have to download Cheat Engine, an open source tool for single player games, along with the applicable Doom Eternal file.
Apparently the Pistol was cut from the final version of Doom Eternal because it was inharmonious to the game’s overall flow, although it’s still interesting to see the weapon fully modeled and functional. In 2016’s Doom, the Pistol, also known as the UAC EMG (Energy-Matter-Gel) Sidearm, was the very first weapon found in the game (near the sarcophagus of a Doom Marine).
Should id and Bethesda have kept the Pistol in the game for staggering weak demons and popping off on exploding barrels or has the chainsaw made the weapon all but obsolete in the hands of the Doomslayer? Perhaps we’ll see the weapon implemented in the form of an in-game cheat or DLC in the future.
