Marvel game titles have delighted generations of players for decades, much like the comics. Those are the games based on the Marvel comic superheroes, such as Spider-Man, Hulk, X-Men, and Captain America. Marvel Games, Konami, and Limited Games have established a partnership to release a recently announced Marvel MaXimum Collection compilation pack. That compilation pack includes a collection of Marvel gaming titles from the 8 and 16-bit console eras.
Marvel has announced the MaXimum Collection pack with a YouTube reveal trailer. That trailer page confirms there will be 13 games within the MaXimum Collection. However, the trailer only shows six of those Marvel games. The games confirmed to be in the MaXimum Collection are:
- Captain America and the Avengers
- Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage
- X-Men: The Arcade Game
- Silver Surfer
- Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge
- Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety
X-Men: The Arcade Game is perhaps the standout game of the MaXimum Collection. That arcade game is highly rated for its fast-paced, side-scrolling beat ‘em up action and six-player cabinet play. The restored game will support online multiplayer for six players.
Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage was another high-regarded side-scrolling Marvel beat ‘em up for the 16-bit SNES and Genesis consoles. That game enables players to play as Spider-Man and Venom characters with different combat styles. It also directly follows the storyline from the Maximum Carnage comic book.
Captain America and the Avengers are also among the more exciting Marvel retro games included within the MaXimum Collection pack. That classic beat ‘em up includes Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Vision Marvel comic characters. It is a classic game because of its iconic 90s aesthetic, gameplay variety that mixes side-scrolling shooting and brawling, and co-op action. Players can play the 16 and 8-bit Captain America and the Avengers games in the MaXimum Collection package.
The Marvel MaXimum Collection will include numerous additional features (bells and whistles) on top. Perhaps the most notable is its digital archive and museum for Marvel games. That digital archive includes original box art, retro game ads, and instruction manuals for players to browse through.

Rewind and save states are in-game accessibility features players can activate when playing Marvel MaXimum Collection games. Save states enable players to save their progress anywhere. Players can also reverse gameplay (undo actions) with the in-game rewind feature. Such features can make the Marvel games a little easier to beat, especially with an integrated cheats menu included.
The Marvel MaXimum Collection pack also has a music player feature. Players can listen to the iconic music from the games in the collection with that music player. That music player also provides some new music tracks from composer Chris Huelsbeck.
The Marvel MaXimum Collection will be available for the Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Windows gaming platforms. It has been listed as coming soon for 2026, with no confirmed release date at present. This compilation pack will undoubtedly be the most definitive and playable collection of retro Marvel games that have previously been hard to access.
