Mortal Kombat 11 adds Rambo, Rain and Mileena to the fray in Kombat Pack 2

Another 80s action movie icon has entered the Mortal Kombat universe alongside Robocop, Terminator, Aliens and Predator — the one-man army himself, John Rambo.

The trailer which introduces Rambo starts out with Baraka fleeing through the forest, being hunted by an unseen assailant. Baraka eventually comes face-to-face with the royal Edenian demi-god Rain, whose powers include pressuring jet streams of water to propel himself, slice opponents like a blade or convert his body to liquid for brief periods of time and then reconstitute himself to escape bodily harm. Before Baraka and Rain can throw down however, the former is whisked away into the woods, disappearing into the surrounding trees and shrubs. Apparently, his unseen assailant has finally caught up to him — after a brief exchange, Baraka’s severed head rolls back onto the path towards Rain’s feet and his attacker emerges from the shadows to reveal herself.

It’s Mileena, hybrid Edenian and Tarkatan clone of Princess Kitana (Mileena was originally a purple palette swap of Kitana who wielded sais instead of serrated fans) first introduced in Mortal Kombat 2. Mileena, whose “Tasty Treat” fatality from Mortal Kombat X made our list of best and most brutal Mortal Kombat fatalities of all time, is an extremely agile, fast fighter (thanks primarily to her Tarkatan physiology) who wields her signature sai, can teleport and also uses her razor-sharp teeth to rip chunks of flesh from whoever is unlucky enough to get in her way.

Mileena and Rain fight (presumably on and around poor Baraka’s head still sitting there in the mud), showcasing their abilities, with Mileena narrowly dodging a net spring trap until they too are interruted. A shirtless man wearing a red bandana and wielding an M60 7.62x51mm NATO machine gun approaches them.

“Who are you?” Mileena hisses.

“I’m your worst nightmare,” Rambo says, using his iconic line from the Rambo film series. Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has confirmed on Twitter that Sylvester Stallone himself provided the voice acting for the character.

In addition to the inclusion of these three new fighters, developer Netherrealm Studios revealed that the latest DLC for Mortal Kombat 11 would be “Xbox Series X|S Smart Delivery Enabled,” upgrading the game for free to 4K dynamic resolution, along with enhanced visuals, loading times and crossplay compatibility AKA “Krossplay Support,” which allows Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 5, Xbox One and Playstation 4 Mortal Kombat 11 players to face off against each other regardless of their gaming platform.

What do you think of the inclusion of Rambo in Mortal Kombat 11? Are you more excited to play as the likeness of Sylvester Stallone or does the return of Mileena and Rain more your thing? Sound off in the comments.

Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
