Future Fortnite Battle Pass items will no longer be exclusive, Epic says

FOMO no more? Although in the past Epic has asserted that Fortnite Battle Pass items would always be exclusive to those who purchased the corresponding Battle Pass during the time window of the season in which it was released, it appears future Fortnite Battle Pass items will no longer be exclusive and be available for purchase at least 18 months after their initial release.

Epic made the announcement in their latest blog post, stating, “This change lets us continue investing in new and exciting Battle Pass rewards while enabling players down the road to also enjoy the content, including Outfits based on popular licensed characters.”

The Battle Pass changes will apply to any type of item offered in the Battle Pass, including Outfits, Back Blings, Harvesting Tools/Pickaxes, Gliders, Emotes, Instruments, Decals, Wraps, Loading Screens, Banner Icons and more.

Black Knight, Hybrid and more skins from Fortnite Season 2/Epic Games

Epic noted that just because an outfit/skin is available in the Battle Pass doesn’t guarantee that it will be available in the future.

“Shop selection is dependent on a variety of factors, and there is no guarantee that a Battle Pass item will come to the Shop after this change goes into effect. If an item in a future Battle Pass will never be available outside the Pass, we’ll let you know!”

Although many OG Fortnite fans may balk at the Battle Pass exclusivity change, it’ll be interesting to see which characters from future Battle Passes are made available under the rule change; it’s likely that popular licensed characters from celebrated movies and other fashionable forms of entertainment, such as the recently released Deadpool & Wolverine skins being made available to those who didn’t purchase the appropriate Battle Pass the first time around are a major impetus for the Battle Pass exclusivity revision.

Notable licensed characters that are locked behind Battle Pass exclusivity include Ahsoka, The Mandalorian and Darth Vader from Star Wars; the original Wolverine and Deadpool, Spider-Man, Spider-Gwen, Dr. Strange, Dr. Doom, Thor, Tony Stark/Iron Man, Storm, Groot, Carnage, Prowler and Magneto from the Marvel Universe; Raven, Superman and Aquaman from the DC Universe; and other skins like Optimus Prime from Transformers, the Predator, Snake from Metal Gear Solid, Doom Slayer, Peter Griffin, Lara Croft from Tomb Raider and Geralt from The Witcher.

What do you think of the fact that future Fortnite Battle Pass items will no longer be exclusive? If the change is popular with Fortnite fans, do you think that past Battle Pass items might be made available in the future as well, barring any licensing issues? Which characters from past Fortnite Battle Passes would you like to see made available in the store again? Let us know in the comments.

Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
