Paramount+’s new Knuckles series may have just dropped on April 26th, but it’s already setting global records. Not only is Knuckles on Paramount+ the most-watched original series of all-time on the platform, the Sonic the Hedgehog-spinoff was streamed for more than 4 million hours on its opening weekend, making it the most-watched kids and family title ever on the streaming service.
Jeff Grossman, executive vice president of programming at Paramount+ said, “The ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ fans came out in full-force. We’re so thrilled with the record-breaking performance of ‘Knuckles’ and the incredible lift the whole Sonic universe has experienced following ‘Knuckles” premiere.”
Just like the days of “lock-on technology” from the Sonic & Knuckles days of the early 90s, Knuckles is once again boosting his blue hedgehog friend too, with Paramount claiming that all other Sonic titles on their streaming platform have seen their viewership boosted by 278% worldwide.
Knuckles on Paramount+ takes place between 2023’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film, the latter of which is slated to release on December 20th, 2024. The cast includes Idris Elba, who reprises his role as Knuckles the Echidna, Adam Pally as Sheriff Whipple, Cary Elwes as “Pistol” Pete Whipple and Rory McCann as “The Buyer,” a former lackey of Dr. Robotnik. The series was produced by Paramount Pictures and Sega of America and created for TV by John Whittington and Toby Ascher. Whittington, who co-wrote Sonic the Hedgehog 2, was head writer for the series and wrote the pilot episode.

Ninja Gaiden was my rite of passage at an early age. After finally beating that game (and narrowly dodging carpal tunnel) I decided to write about my gaming exploits. These days I enjoy roguelikes and anything Pokemon but I'll always dust off Super Mario RPG, Donkey Kong Country and StarFox 64 from time to time to bask in their glory.
